Verbena is a flowering plant with a wide range of colors and fairly beautiful flower shapes. It originated in South America and only arrived in our country in recent years. The name verbena alone makes people feel that it is a very beautiful type of flower, and it is often used for home potted plants or for decorating gardens, flowerbeds and other places. So today let's find out when should verbena be sown? What are the care tips?

1. When should verbena be sown?

The sowing time for verbena is very important. Generally, spring or autumn is chosen for sowing, but for good flowering, plants grow better in spring than in autumn. Verbena seeds are different from the seeds of other flowers, and their germination rate is not high, but as long as they are in an environment with a suitable temperature, they can grow well.

If you choose to sow in autumn, verbena seeds must be harvested in July-August. After sowing, it should be placed in a cool, dark place for care, and be sure to keep it ventilated and the soil moist. The environment must not be too dry, otherwise it will be very hard to ensure the germination rate. Remember, do not water directly from above; instead, let the water be slowly absorbed from the bottom of the pot. You can place a small dish under the pot with a certain amount of water in it, and once the soil becomes moist, you can remove the dish. Autumn is relatively dry, so you can use a small spray bottle to spray water around the seeds to increase the air humidity and improve the germination rate.

2. What are the care tips for verbena?

1. Soil

Verbena does not have high soil requirements. Generally, a neutral soil with good looseness, strong drainage, fertility and relative moisture is enough for it to grow well. You can also make your own nutrient soil; you can go to a flower shop to “learn from experience.”

2. Temperature

The growing temperature for verbena should not be too high or too low. Generally, it grows best at 15-25°C, so care in winter and summer is very important. In summer, pay attention to sun protection and cooling; in winter, pay attention to protection from freezing, so as to avoid yellowing, wilting and dropping of leaves.

3. Watering

Watering any flower requires attention to method. It should be neither too much nor too little, because long-term water accumulation or long-term water shortage will cause poor growth and even death of the plant. Generally, the amount of watering can be decided according to the moisture of the potting soil and the growth stage. Of course, watering techniques should also be mastered according to the season. Generally, in winter care, try to keep the potting soil moist but on the dry side, and reduce the frequency and amount of watering; in summer, keep it moist but not waterlogged, and you can also spray water around the leaves to increase humidity.

4. Light

Verbena does not need too much light to grow, so it is one of the flowers suitable for indoor care. In winter, it should be moved outdoors appropriately to get some sun and ensure healthy growth.

5. Fertilizing

When fertilizing verbena, master the technique of frequent but light fertilizing. Remember not to make it too concentrated, to prevent root burn, which can lead to yellowing of the whole plant's leaves and failure to bloom on time.

In addition, pruning is also very necessary to grow verbena well. In order to promote more flowering, pinching is usually done in the early flowering stage.
