How to Grow Yellow Peaches: Learn to Cultivate a Health-Boosting Fruit
Yellow peach, also known as yellow-fleshed peach, has high health-preserving benefits and is called a “health-boosting fruit” by people, widely distributed in North China, Central China and Southwest China. So, how do you grow yellow peaches? Let's find out together!
1. Orchard Planning
Yellow peach likes warmth and is suitable for growing in a warm climate. In China, the more representative yellow peach growing areas include Wutai Town in Pingyi County, which is known as the “Hometown of Yellow Peaches in China”, as well as Yanling County in Hunan Province and Guidong County in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province. In terms of orchard selection, the requirements are relatively high terrain, fertile soil, loose soil texture, convenient irrigation, well-developed transportation and a complete drainage system. Land preparation generally uses pit reclamation, digging planting pits deep, with each pit about one meter in both width and height. After digging, pour in sufficient farmyard manure, an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer and urea, cover with a thin layer of soil, and then planting can begin.
2. Seedling Selection
There are quite a few yellow peach varieties, so we need to choose varieties according to conditions such as climate and soil. First, we need to select a suitable variety based on the local climate conditions. Varieties such as Huanglu, Jintong, Huangjin and Huangguan are all relatively good varieties and can adapt to most climates. When choosing saplings, it is best to choose strong seedlings about 80 cm tall with well-developed and uniform root systems and no pests or diseases.
3. Scientific Planting
Yellow peaches are generally planted in autumn and winter or in late winter and early spring. Planting at this time gives a higher survival rate. The latest planting time should not be later than the end of February. For the planting pits, row spacing and plant spacing should be reasonably arranged to ensure a proper planting density.
4. Orchard Management
After planting, water promptly to maintain soil moisture. Orchard management is generally divided into three stages. The first stage is the management of young trees, mainly to promote the growth of young trees and bring them into the fruiting stage as early as possible. First, pay attention to trunk training, bud removal and branch and leaf pruning. Second, throughout the entire growth period of young trees, apply fertilizer frequently and lightly, mainly nitrogen fertilizer, to promote the growth of young trees. The second stage is the fruiting stage. The most important thing in the fruiting stage is fertilizer and water management. Fertilizer and water management is generally divided into four steps: growth fertilizer, flower-promoting fertilizer, fruit-strengthening fertilizer and maintenance fertilizer. During this period, attention should be paid to artificial pollination. The third stage is the management of old fruit trees. We need to extend the fruiting years of yellow peach trees through pruning and shaping, as well as loosening the soil and topdressing, and try to avoid reducing yield.
5. Pest and Disease Control
Yellow peach basically has no major pests or diseases during growth, but prevention should still be done in advance. Before budding, pesticides can be sprayed to prevent pests and diseases. After fruit set, the orchard should be cleaned and disinfected. In addition, bagging techniques can be used to prevent pests and diseases. The main pests and diseases of yellow peach are anthracnose, peach fruit borer and peach fruit moth.
