Cimicifuga Planting Techniques and Yield per Mu Explained
Cimicifuga generally grows in warm and humid places, such as in mountain forests or in hillside grass. Cimicifuga is a traditional Chinese medicine that can detoxify, so how is it planted? Cimicifuga planting techniques? What is the yield of Cimicifuga per mu?
1. Cimicifuga planting techniques?
1. Land preparation and fertilization. For artificial cultivation of Cimicifuga, loam, sandy loam or humus loam with deep soil layers, good drainage, loose fertility and sufficient sunlight should be selected for making beds. Apply 2000 kg of farmyard manure per mu. Adopt the large-ridge high-bed technique, with a bed width of 130-140 cm, a length determined as needed, a bed height of 10-12 cm, and a bed spacing of 30 cm.
2. Propagation techniques.
(1) Direct seeding. Both spring and autumn are suitable. In spring, from late April to mid-May, before sowing, first open furrows along the bed surface at a row spacing of 20-25 cm, with a furrow depth of 4-5 cm, sow the seeds evenly in rows in the furrows, cover with 1.5-2 cm of fine soil, press lightly, water thoroughly, and cover the bed surface with a layer of rice straw to retain moisture. In autumn, from mid-October to early November, the sowing method is the same as in spring.
(2) Seedling raising and transplanting. When the seedlings have grown for 1 year, transplant them. In the prepared field, open holes at a plant spacing of 40 cm and a row spacing of 50 cm, with a hole depth of 15 cm, plant 1 seedling per hole, cover with soil to a level 4-5 cm above the terminal bud, and water thoroughly once after planting.
3. Field management.
(1) Cultivation and weeding. During the seedling stage, cultivate and weed frequently, and hoe shallowly to prevent damaging the rhizome.
(2) Topdressing. Combined with loosening the soil and weeding, apply an appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer in June-July according to the growth of the seedlings. Two-year-old Cimicifuga bears fewer fruits and the seed quality is poor, so the inflorescence can be cut off at the early bud stage to promote rhizome growth. Thereafter, cultivate and weed 1-2 times each year.
(3) Irrigation and drainage. If drought occurs, water in time to keep the soil moist. During the rainy season, pay attention to timely drainage to prevent waterlogging, so as to avoid root rot and seedling death, which would reduce yield and quality.
(4) Bud removal. The inflorescence can be cut off at the early bud stage to promote rhizome growth.
2. What is the yield of Cimicifuga per mu?
Cimicifuga is mainly produced in Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, and is also produced in Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Qinghai and other provinces. The yield of Cimicifuga may vary according to actual conditions.
Cimicifuga can be harvested after 4 years of growth, and the harvest season is mainly in autumn. When harvesting, choose a sunny day, first cut off the withered branches, stems and leaves of the aboveground part, dig out the rhizome, remove the soil, wash it clean, sun-dry it until 80% dry, singe off the fibrous roots with fire, then sun-dry until completely dry, and rub off the epidermis and remaining fibrous roots. Each mu can produce about 200 kg of dried medicinal material.
However, Cimicifuga still varies somewhat each year. This year the new production volume of Cimicifuga is relatively low, the overall market demand remains unchanged, market movement is relatively tight, and as its new goods have not yet arrived, with the continuous decrease of sources, its price has steadily rebounded. At present, the price of Northeast goods is 36 yuan, and the price of Korean goods is around 22 yuan.
