Peppers can be used as a side dish or as a main dish, and they are deeply loved by people in Sichuan, Chongqing, Hunan and other places; for people elsewhere, they are also a common vegetable. So, what are the planting times and planting methods for peppers? Let's find out together!

I. Planting Time for Peppers

Peppers love heat and are best grown in places with a mild climate and plenty of sunlight, so the planting time varies according to local climate conditions. In Guangdong, for example, temperatures are high all year round, so peppers can be planted at any time, while in other regions the planting time is generally from March to July, when both the temperature and light are suitable for pepper growth. In addition, early sowing allows them to grow more fully and produce more fruit.

II. Planting Methods for Peppers

1. Choosing soil and preparing the land

Peppers have a weak root system, so they have relatively high requirements for the planting soil and conditions. It is best to choose a sunny area or a gentle slope with plenty of light, because peppers grown with sufficient light are not only larger but also taste better. Note that they must not be planted in places that get no sunlight for a long time, as the peppers grown there will be of poor quality. The planting soil is best neutral or slightly alkaline, and must never be acidic. If the conditions do not meet this requirement and the soil is highly acidic, lime powder can be used to neutralize it; if it is highly alkaline, coal cinders can be added to neutralize it.

2. Sowing and raising seedlings

Before sowing, disinfect and sprout the seeds first. Start by drying the seeds in the sun for two days; this not only raises the germination rate but also kills the pathogens the seeds carry. If the sunlight is not strong before sowing, you can also soak them in diluted potassium permanganate for sterilization, then soak them in warm water for about 12 hours. When sowing, spread the seeds evenly on the seedling bed, cover with about 1 cm of soil, spray water to moisten the soil, and keep the temperature between 25 and 28 degrees; they will sprout and emerge in about a week. When the seedlings grow to 5 cm, they can be planted out.

3. Field planting and management

Peppers have a weak root system, so when planting them out, trench planting or flat planting is preferable. At the initial planting, they should not be buried deep; cover with only a shallow layer of soil, about 2 cm, and gradually mound soil around them as they grow. Peppers have a compact plant shape and can be planted densely; generally the spacing between plants is 30-45 cm and the row spacing is about 50-60 cm. Peppers cannot grow without water; with sufficient water, the fruits grow thick and juicy, so they need frequent watering to keep the soil moist at all times, but not overly wet, otherwise the plant roots are prone to rot. When watering, a fungicide can be added regularly to prevent disease.

The above is the planting time and planting methods for peppers compiled for you by the Tuliu.com editor. Peppers are in great demand in the market, and attention to reasonable, efficient planting methods can greatly increase yields and raise growers' economic profits.
