The fig is something many friends have heard of, but few have seen and understood, leaving them in a state of knowing the name but not the reality. The fig is a plant that can flower, and it is both edible and highly ornamental, making it consistently popular in the market. Through secondary processing it can also become preserved fruit, snack jams and so on, with a sweet and delicious taste that is widely loved. Because of market demand, more and more friends are now growing figs. So, are you clear about the cultivation methods for figs? Let's take a look together.

The cultivation methods for figs

1. Cultivation temperature

Because the fig is a deciduous fruit tree, its temperature requirements are not especially high. In the early stage right after planting, the temperature needs to be kept below 25 degrees; this temperature is suitable for the fig to survive, and the lowest temperature must not fall below 5°C, as low temperatures will cause frostbite and death. As for the highest temperature, the fig can withstand about 37 degrees, and above 37 degrees there is a risk of sunburn. Based on the fig's characteristics, keeping the temperature at around 20 degrees all year round is the most suitable.

2. Planting time

Because of the fig's growth habits, everyone can pay attention to the planting time during the planting period. Generally, figs are mainly planted in two seasons: March to April in spring, and September to October in autumn. Planting figs in these two seasons, because of the weather and temperature, gives a much higher survival rate.

3. Propagation methods

Unlike other green plants, the fig can propagate itself. What humans need to do is properly transplant the root suckers produced after the fig propagates; this step is crucial. Besides transplanting root suckers, figs can also be propagated by layering. When layering, you can choose some sturdy branches in spring and bury them in soil, then wait for time and natural watering to allow roots to grow. Once you see the roots changing, you can begin transplanting. There is another propagation method, cutting propagation, which is similar to the usual cutting of other green plants. What needs attention is soaking the branches in carbendazim for a while before cutting, which will increase the survival rate.

4. Watering and fertilizing

Watering and fertilizing figs are crucial steps that can directly affect the yield and quality of the entire orchard. According to the fig's characteristics, farmyard manure or nitrogen fertilizer can be used during the seedling stage; these two fertilizers can promote growth. Figs need topdressing five times a year. Once they reach maturity, fertilizing once each during the three periods of spring, flowering and harvest each year is sufficient. After each fertilizing, water should be applied; this is to improve the fig's nutrient absorption rate.

That is all for today's introduction to the cultivation methods for figs. Friends interested in this can buy a few saplings and try cultivating them; practice is far more important than watching theoretical knowledge.
