How to repot a Hawaiian palm? Detailed methods and steps

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Also known as "bamboo palm", "miniature bamboo palm" or "Chamaedorea seifrizii", it is a plant of the Arecaceae family. Its place of origin is mainly in some tropical countries, such as Mexico and Guatemala. Later, it began to be planted on a large scale in Taiwan, China, and subsequently became one of the main production areas. It is an indoor foliage plant, which we can also see from the pictures. It is suitable for being placed in many places such as the living room, study and office. Repotting is an unavoidable step in growing it, so how exactly is it done?

1. Frequency

There is no fixed standard for this. We can adjust the frequency according to the specific growth condition of the plant. Generally speaking, once every two to three years is enough.

2. Specific steps

(1) Water control: this is a step that must be taken before repotting; only after controlling water can you repot. Do not water in the short term, and wait until the potting soil is relatively dry (generally half-dry) before starting.

(2) Changing the soil: this means replacing the old soil in the pot with new soil. However, one point to note is that the soil cannot all be replaced; only part of it should be changed. Generally, to ensure the normal growth of the plant, replacing about half of it is enough.

(3) Handling the plant: repotting is not only about the soil; the plant itself must also be handled, mainly by pruning. For those aged roots, as well as roots that have died after becoming diseased, we should cut them off, mainly keeping the newly grown roots.

(4) Some fertilizer can be used in the newly added soil, in order to prompt the plant to adapt to the new environment more quickly. However, do not add too much fertilizer, otherwise the roots of the plant will be damaged.

(5) After repotting, press the soil firm. Then, water thoroughly, and be sure to water thoroughly. In addition, another thing to note is not to let too strong light shine on the plant, and to take appropriate shading measures.
