How Many Times a Year Does Amaryllis Bloom? A Detailed Guide to Its Blooming Patterns
1. How Many Times This Plant Blooms
How many times it can specifically bloom in a year varies depending on its variety. Generally speaking, many varieties can only bloom once, but with good care, it can bloom twice a year, though this situation is relatively rare and requires somewhat more effort from us. However, it is worth mentioning that some varieties can actually bloom three times a year, such as certain types of Dutch amaryllis.
2. Methods to Increase the Number of Blooms
(1) After it blooms for the first time in May, place the plant in a well-ventilated and cool location, and apply fertilizer once every ten days. In addition, we should also spray water regularly. As for sunlight, if the light feels too strong and the temperature too high, appropriate shading can be provided.
(2) With proper care, it can bloom a second time in July. After blooming, fertilize as in the previous step.
(3) In mid-September, move the plant indoors, keep the temperature at around 13 degrees, and water once every ten days. At this time, do not use fertilizer yet.
(4) In mid-November, cut off all the leaves, stop both watering and fertilizing, and place the plant in a dry, cool location, with the temperature also at around 13 degrees. At this time, the plant is in a dormant state, which will cause the flower buds to begin differentiating.
(5) About one month before the Spring Festival, water thoroughly, place it in a spot with good light, and adjust the temperature to around 20 degrees. In this way, the plant will be able to bloom right away during the festival period. This is the third blooming, and it can add a festive atmosphere.
