How to grow orchids? Learn to grow one of the Four Gentlemen of Flowers
The orchid is one of China's ten famous flowers, with many varieties, praised as the Valley Fairy and the Ancestor of Fragrance, and deeply loved by many flower enthusiasts. So, how do you grow orchids? Let's find out together!
1. Planting site
The site for planting orchids is very important, and the surrounding environment has a direct connection to the growth of orchids. We should adjust the surrounding environment appropriately according to changes in weather and season. In spring, summer and autumn, open-field cultivation is generally the main method, while after winter arrives they need to be placed in a greenhouse to ensure suitable humidity and sufficient light. When choosing a planting site, we should also pay attention to whether transportation is convenient, because orchids are mainly grown one by one in flower pots, and once they reach market standard they need to be transported.
2. Potting in time
When potting, pay attention to choosing a good flower pot and adding good growing medium to the pot. There is no need to add base fertilizer at the early stage. After placing the orchid seedling into the pot, be careful to spread out the roots to ensure the roots are fully mixed with the soil, then lift the orchid up slightly so that the pseudobulb is level with the soil surface, then gently press the soil with your fingers to prevent gaps from appearing in the soil, and water in time. After potting, do a good job of shading and watering, and let it get some morning sun to ensure healthy growth of the orchid.
3. Watering management
Orchids do not have high water requirements, and their water needs differ during different growth periods. For example, during the flowering period, water should be appropriately reduced, otherwise it will affect the growth of the orchid. During rainy weather, pay attention to rain protection and drainage. When watering, avoid the high temperatures at noon and pay attention to the amount of water, which should not be too much, to prevent root rot from waterlogging and to prevent pests and diseases. In summer, the amount of watering can be appropriately increased, and spraying in the garden can raise humidity. In winter, the amount of watering should be reduced to a minimum, but it must not be omitted entirely, to prevent the soil from drying out and affecting the growth of the orchid.
4. Reasonable fertilizing
The growth of orchids also requires a certain amount of nutrients, so fertilization cannot be omitted during the growth process, but it also should not be excessive or too frequent. When new leaf buds emerge from the orchid, lightly apply nitrogen fertilizer 2-3 times. In spring and autumn and about 3 weeks after the flowers fall are good times for fertilizing. Fertilizing should preferably be done in the evening after the sun has set, with appropriate watering the next morning. About half a month later, foliar fertilizer can be appropriately sprayed to promote the blooming of flower buds. When the orchid leaves are relatively thin, topdress in time; when they turn black, do not topdress.
Orchids are delicate and pricey, and a little carelessness can cause relatively large economic losses, so extra care is needed.
