Firecracker flower, also known as yellow eel vine, what propagation methods does it have?
Firecracker flower, also known as yellow eel vine, is a flower grown as an ornamental garden plant in tropical regions. It can often be seen growing on iron fences. Its clusters look very much like firecrackers, so it is also called firecracker flower. So what propagation methods does firecracker flower have? Below, take a look with the Tutuliu editor
Propagation methods of firecracker flower
1. Division method
1. To propagate firecracker flower, we can use layering and cuttings, as well as division. However, layering roots most quickly, and its survival rate is somewhat higher than that of cuttings
2. Division is generally done after the flowering period by selecting branches more than one year old and relatively thick and strong; deliberately notch the part intended to be buried in the soil, bury it in a soil layer about 10 cm deep, fix it with bamboo so it does not spring out, and keep the soil consistently moist enough. Usually by autumn we can cut it away from the mother plant and plant it separately.
2. Cutting method
1. Late March is the best month for taking firecracker flower cuttings. Choose relatively thick and strong branches about one year old as cuttings, then insert the selected cuttings into a moist sand bed and spray water to maintain humidity. When the weather temperature stabilizes at around 21 degrees, the inserted cuttings can root in about 26 days, with a survival rate of 70 percent
2. After one month, move them to the nursery for cultivation. In one year they can be ready for sale; after that, they are lifted from the nursery and planted out separately. In the second year they can bloom, and in the third year they can green an entire sea of firecracker flower
3. Old stems can also be used for cuttings, that is, choose relatively thick and strong old stems growing from the roots, which can reach more than 2 m at the longest, insert them into fertile sandy soil, and give them a semi-shaded environment. They can take root in about two months. After cutting, there is no need to tend them that year; let them send out branches and leaves on their own.
3. Layering method
Layering means mainly using vines that have already fallen to the ground, and pressing a layer of soil over the injured bark at a damaged leaf axil. This step can be done from spring to autumn. The editor recommends summer as the most suitable time for layering; roots can form within one month, and at one and a half months cut off the new branches that have grown to cultivate as new plants. They can bloom that same year. Firecracker flowers grown by layering are mostly used by us as potted plants and are not suitable for raising seedlings in the nursery.
