The lily is a common green plant for us, and it can also be called fanjiu, shandan, daoxian, chongmai, zhongting, moluo and so on. It originated in our country, and based on the more than 100 varieties found worldwide, half of them come from China. Now with more and more experience in artificial cultivation, there are also more and more new lily varieties. So when should lilies be planted? How should they be pruned?

1. When should lilies be planted?

Lily planting can be approached from two aspects: temperature-based planting and seasonal planting.

1. Temperature-based planting

Because of the differences between the north and south of our country, the temperature in the south and north differs every year, so planting lilies also needs to be carefully distinguished. Based on cultivation experience from various regions, the most suitable germination temperature for lilies is concentrated between 10-15°C.

As long as you plant lilies within this temperature range, then water and fertilize generously, there is no problem keeping them alive. Some friends who grow green plants also say that lilies belong to cool-loving flowers and are very suitable for survival in areas with large day-night temperature differences.

2. Seasonal planting

Besides the temperature differences between north and south, many friends still plant lilies according to the seasons. Lilies are planted on a large scale every year in spring and autumn. It is generally concentrated in November-March and August-September each year; during this period the temperature is suitable and the environment is more favorable for lily growth. If you are going to plant lilies on a large scale, it is recommended that everyone sow in spring, and they will bloom within two to three years.

Note: before sowing, you can first place the seeds under light and examine them carefully, selecting the better-developed seeds for sowing, which is also more beneficial for future growth.

2. How should lilies be pruned?

We prune lilies mainly so they can grow better, and also to make the green plant's shape look nicer; this both improves the ornamental value and prevents dead branches from absorbing nutrients.

1. Water-grown lilies: for water-grown lilies, a pruning should be done just before they are inserted. Cut off a section diagonally at the bottom before inserting it into the soil, so it can absorb nutrients from the soil more easily.

2. Soil-grown lilies: for soil-grown plants it is also best to cut diagonally; cutting diagonally can protect the flower buds. Just leave three or four buds at the base of the cut branch.

Whether water-grown or soil-grown lilies, we should develop the habit of regular pruning to avoid dead branches and diseased branches; if too many accumulate, it is unfavorable for the growing middle branches and buds.

That is all for today's introduction to questions related to lilies.
