Clever Management of Greenhouse Chives to Increase Profits
Due to market demand, greenhouse chives have been planted in more and more places in recent years, so how can greenhouse chives be cleverly managed to increase profits?
I. Preparations before covering the greenhouse for chives
1. Cleaning the beds
Generally, the aboveground part of chives withers in early to mid-November; it varies slightly by region and chive variety. After the aboveground part completely withers, cut off and clean up the dead leaves, weeds, etc. in the chive beds.
2. Digging out the clumps
After cleaning the beds, dig out the surface soil above the chive bulbs and remove it from the beds to expose the bulbs, letting them sun by day and freeze by night, so as to break dormancy earlier, make the chives emerge uniformly, and at the same time eliminate pests that lurk in the chive clumps to overwinter. Note: be careful not to damage the roots when digging out the chive clumps.
3. Pest control
The biggest problem with continuously planted chives is the chive maggot. One week after digging out the chive clumps, irrigate the roots with 80 kg of 50% phoxim emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times dilution, which can prevent chive maggot damage.
4. Fertilizing
3-4 days after root irrigation, open furrows between the rows and apply fertilizer; at this time, both organic fertilizer and inorganic fertilizer should be supplied in large amounts at the same time.
5. Leveling the ground and watering
After fertilizing, cover with soil so that the soil surface is level with the chive clumps, then water; after the covering soil settles, add another layer of fine soil to bury the chive clumps firmly.
II. Management of greenhouse chives after covering
1. Fertilizing
About 2-3 days after watering and covering with soil, once the soil becomes loose, the greenhouse can be covered; choose the number of covering layers according to the local climate. About 20-30 days after covering, the first crop of chives can be marketed. 2-3 days after harvest, when the chives have grown to about 2-3 cm, quick-acting fertilizer should be used to replenish fertility; the operations for the second and third crops are the same as for the first crop.
2. Disease control
After the chives are covered, humidity increases and the probability of gray mold outbreaks rises, so attention should be paid to ventilation. Use 260-300 g of 10% procymidone smoke agent per mu, distribute and ignite it, close the greenhouse, and fumigate overnight. Or spray procymidone, iprodione, etc. to treat gray mold, spraying once every 7-10 days.
Chive maggots are also at their peak of damage. According to the occurrence of the disease, the drugs that can be selected to treat chive maggots include the following: phoxim, Beauveria bassiana, veratrine, beta-cyhalothrin and other drugs, applied by root irrigation. For chives irrigated at the roots with phoxim, use a concentration of 50% phoxim at 1000 times dilution.
For bacterial diseases, streptomycin, xinjunan, zhongshengmycin, thiodiazole-copper, thiosen copper, copper quinoline, ye kuzuo, and ethylicin can be used.
III. Management of greenhouse chives in early spring
After 2-3 crops of chive production, the whole chive plant is in a state of nutrient deficit. To ensure chive production in early spring the following year, this deficit must be made up. Therefore, at the end of winter production or in early spring, organic fertilizer and inorganic fertilizer should be supplemented to ensure early spring chive growth; early spring chive production is basically the same as winter production. After 2-3 crops, the chives enter the summer root-nurturing stage.
