At present, the main varieties include Dahongpao (Shitou), Xiaohongpao, Jinjiao, Youjiao and other strong varieties. For seed collection, choose high-quality middle-aged trees, and sow seeds from fruits that are fully mature with purple pericarp and seeds that are blue-black in appearance, intact, and disease-free.
II. Methods for handling Sichuan pepper seeds
First, select freshly picked Sichuan pepper seeds from the seeds, then soak them in warm water in a 1% alkaline water or 1% laundry detergent solution for two days (with the water submerging the seeds), and repeatedly rub and wash the seed coat. Before the seed surface turns grayish-white, rinse the alkaline solution off the seed coat with water and mix it with plant ash, after which sowing can be carried out.
