China is the country with the most maple species in the world, and they are very widely distributed, from the seaside to high-cold mountain areas at 400 m. So how much does a maple sapling cost? Which areas are suitable for planting them?

1. How much does a maple sapling cost?

At present, the price of each maple sapling on the market is related to the sapling's actual size, height, variety and diameter, and the specific price depends on the customer's actual needs. It is reported that some saplings sold on the market that are 1 m tall generally cost between 20 and 30 yuan each, while the more expensive ones are nearly 100 yuan per plant.

However, it is worth noting that the price of saplings from private nurseries is much higher than that from agricultural and forestry farms, sometimes even more than 1-2 times higher. This is a policy adopted by agricultural and forestry companies in economic policy to promote improved varieties.

2. Which areas are suitable for planting maples?

Maples are widely distributed in China, mostly in the Yangtze River basin and the southwestern region. The maple is a tall tree that grows quickly and roots deeply, and its leaves turn from green to red in late autumn.

However, when planting maples, attention should also be paid to soil problems.

1. Plant maples cautiously in saline-alkali land

Saline-alkali land is land with a pH value of 7.1-9.5 or above. In saline-alkali land, special attention must be paid when cultivating red maple seedlings. In particular, do not irrigate on a large scale. This is because large-scale irrigation of the land will only cause secondary salinization of the soil. Secondarily salinized land is very unfavorable to the growth of trees, especially young saplings in the growth stage.

2. Slightly acidic soil is suitable for planting maples

Maples are relatively suitable for growing in slightly acidic soil, but acidic soil also has many types, especially some trace elements that are very harmful to plants. Once their content in the soil is too high, it has a great impact on the survival rate of red maple seedlings. Therefore, when planting red maple seedlings, attention must be paid to the pH of the soil. This concerns not only the growth of the seedlings, but also has a decisive effect on the leaf color after the seedlings grow up. Red maple seedlings grown in acidic soil tend to have bright red leaves. In contrast, seedlings grown in saline-alkali land tend to have dark red leaves.

3. Pay attention to management during the maple seedling stage

(1) Thinning and filling in seedlings

After the grass cover is removed, when the seedlings have grown to 3-5 cm, choose a cloudy or light rainy day for thinning, keeping 70-80 plants per sq m.

(2) Fertilization and drainage/irrigation

Forty days after the grass cover is removed from the seedlings or 30 days after transplanting, nitrogen fertilizer may be applied appropriately as a top dressing. The first concentration should be less than 0.1% (about 1.5 kg per mu), and afterward, depending on the growth of the seedlings, fertilize once every 1 month at a concentration of 0.5%-1%, applying 2-3 times during the entire growing season. Fertilization should be carried out after 3 p.m., and after fertilization, rinse promptly with clear water. After rain, drain accumulated water from the field promptly to prevent root rot, and when the weather remains dry for a long time, irrigate the seedling plot promptly.

(3) Loosening the soil and weeding

When the seedlings are small, weeding must be done by hand. When the seedlings grow to 30 cm, chemical weeding can be used, but be careful to point the sprayer nozzle at the middle of the drill rows and not let the liquid fall on young leaves and young stems. In principle, chemical herbicide use is not advocated.
