Okra is a vegetable that has been highly popular in recent years. Healthy and delicious, with diverse ways to prepare it. Because of its considerable price and market demand, many growers are willing to cultivate okra. So what exactly are theokra cultivation methods? Below, the editor of Tuliu Wang will explain them to everyone

I. Okra Cultivation Methods

1. Land preparation

Prepare the plot for planting yellow okra. After harvest, deep plowing should be carried out in autumn and winter, with deep plowing of thirty cm, to deepen the mature soil layer, further loosen the soil, and enhance the soil's water storage and fertilizer retention capacity. Before planting, the land should be well worked: level, loose, and soft, with the top loose and the bottom solid.

2. Fertilization

Yellow okra requires more fertilizer. Apply five thousand kilograms of decomposed manure per mu, and apply twenty kilograms of compound fertilizer. Before land preparation, spread it on the ground, then work it deep into the soil, mix well, blend the soil and fertilizer, and then open furrows to make beds.

3. Sowing

Direct seeding is mostly used, and there is also seedling transplanting. It is usually planted in mid-May, planted in mid-June, and harvested in large quantities in August.

4. Thinning seedlings

After emergence, yellow okra should be thinned in time; when there are two to three true leaves, remove diseased, weak, and small seedlings, leaving two plants per hole. After the seedlings emerge, cultivation should be carried out every ten days and weeds should be removed in time. Before the first flower opens, cultivation should be strengthened, with appropriate hilling, to promote root development. Cultivate soil before covering to prevent the plants from lodging.

5. Setting up supports and picking leaves

In summer, there should be a support to prevent lodging, and a bamboo pole or branch one meter long can be inserted beside the base of the plant to support the plant. In the early stage of growth, excessive growth of nutrients must be prevented from causing leggy growth, and in the middle and late stages, the old leaves on the part below the harvested tender fruits are removed in time. Seeds should be picked in time to promote the aging and ripening of the seed fruits, promote full grains, and improve seed quality.

II. Okra Yield per Mu and Varieties

The yield of okra per mu is generally 2500-4000 jin. The yield situations of several okra varieties are as follows

Main varieties

1. Five Corners: Bred in Japan, plant height about 1 m, fruit five-angled, fruit dark green, glossy, many fruits, excellent quality, yield per mu about 2000 kg.

2. Cariba: Starts setting fruit from low nodes, with strong continuous fruit-setting ability and a high product rate. Suitable harvest time: fruit length 8-12 cm, fruit diameter 1.7 cm is appropriate. Good flavor, very popular. Suitable for both greenhouse and open-field cultivation, cultivation in high-temperature periods. Yield per mu about 3000 kg.

3. Wufu: Fruit color emerald green, fruit surface smooth, five-angled type, occasionally six-angled. Leaves finely cleft. The main branch begins to bear fruit at the fifth node. Yield per mu about 3000 kg
