Lion's mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) gets its name because its shape closely resembles a monkey's head, and it is also called hedgehog fungus. It is a precious dish, one of the four famous dishes, with an incomparably delicious taste, deeply sought after by many people, and many have invested in cultivating it. So, what are the precautions during the fruiting period of lion's mane mushroom? Let's follow the editor to learn about it!

1. Preparation for fruiting

In the mushroom shed, under conditions of strict shading and darkness, 20 days after inoculation, the mycelium has already penetrated one third into the mushroom bag, and at this time preparations for fruiting should be made. Since the mushroom bag is made of plastic film, for normal fruiting, first cut a small slit of about 3 cm at each of the top, middle and bottom of the mushroom bag, so that the young buds will grow out from these slits; without cutting slits, the young buds cannot grow out.

2. Temperature and humidity

During fruiting, the temperature in the mushroom shed should be maintained between 12-20 degrees, with 18 degrees being most suitable. Generally, when the temperature in the mushroom shed is above 26 degrees or below 10 degrees, the growth rate of the fruiting body will be extremely slow, affecting yield and quality. Air humidity is also extremely important; during fruiting it needs to be maintained between 85%-90% to meet the fruiting body's demand for water and humidity. When humidity is sufficient, the fruiting body grows quickly, is pure white in color, and yields are higher. If humidity is too high or too low, the fruiting body grows slowly or stops growing, and is very prone to deformities. When humidity is low, water or mist should be sprayed in time to increase the humidity in the mushroom shed, while on rainy or overcast days watering is not advisable.

3. Timely ventilation and cooling

Lion's mane mushroom is an aerobic fungus, and it needs sufficient fresh oxygen during growth. When oxygen is sufficient, the fruiting body is large in size, firm in texture and white in color, with high yield. Lion's mane mushroom is relatively sensitive to carbon dioxide concentration; generally, when the carbon dioxide concentration in the mushroom shed exceeds 0.1%, it will grow poorly and even become deformed. Therefore, during cultivation, ventilation and air exchange must be carried out frequently, and the vents should be opened regularly every day. In addition, timely ventilation during high-temperature periods can also lower the temperature, but during low temperatures ventilation should be reduced to increase temperature and retain moisture. In high-temperature conditions, ventilate in the morning and evening, half an hour each time, while in low temperatures ventilate at noon.

4. Control light

When the mycelium has grown to one third or two thirds of the mushroom bag, it should be given appropriate scattered light to promote the formation of the fruiting body, but the light should not be too strong; 200-300 lux is suitable. In this way, the fruiting body can mature in about half a month. Although the fruiting body of lion's mane mushroom forms in a dark environment without light, it often forms deformed mushrooms; likewise, strong light can also cause deformed mushrooms.

Lion's mane mushroom is rich in nutritional value, is an excellent health product, has generous economic benefits, and has broad market prospects. Farmers who have the conditions to invest in cultivation can learn more about it in depth!

The above is an introduction to the precautions during the fruiting period of lion's mane mushroom. I hope it can help you!
