How should celery be planted in winter so it grows strong and healthy?
Celery is very popular among people. The main cultivation methods are open-field cultivation in spring, summer and autumn, and protected cultivation in autumn and winter. Growing celery in the autumn-winter crop achieves high quality, high yield and high efficiency. Today let's talk about winter celery cultivation techniques.
1. Breaking seed dormancy
Celery likes cold conditions. If the temperature is above 25°C, the seeds are very difficult to germinate, but they can germinate successfully at 15 to 20°C, so seeds sown in summer must be given low-temperature treatment. After soaking the seeds for 12 hours, they can be placed in a refrigerator at 10°C for low-temperature treatment for 7 to 8 days to release dormancy, and then sown.
2. Shaded sowing
Choose sandy loam soil with relatively high terrain and good drainage and irrigation conditions as the seedbed. The seedbed is 10 m long and 1 to 1.5 m wide. Sieve decomposed organic fertilizer and spread it evenly over the surface of the bed, turn it into the soil and mix it evenly with the manure and soil, then level the bed surface and water it thoroughly. Mix the treated seeds evenly with fine sand and scatter them over the bed surface, then cover with fine soil 2 to 3 cm thick. 667 sq m requires 50 to 80 g of high-quality seeds, and the seedbed should be 30 to 50 sq m.
3. Watering the seedbed
After watering the seedbed, the topsoil of the seedbed should be kept moist. When the seeds push through the soil for 7 to 8 days, sprinkle water lightly once so that the seedlings can emerge smoothly, and the seedlings can be obtained within 8 to 10 days. When the seedlings have 2 to 3 leaves, water again.
4. Applying strong seedling fertilizer
Timely control weeds when the seedlings have 3 to 4 leaves, and apply one portion of quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer, then fertilize according to the situation. In summer, pay attention to foliar application of calcium fertilizer to prevent heart rot. Because celery seedlings die easily during the summer, after the seedlings are fully emerged, first thin out clustered seedlings and seedlings that are too dense. When there are two leaves, the spacing for the second thinning is about 1 to 1.5 cm; when there are three leaves, the spacing is about 4 to 5 cm, and the spacing between seedlings is kept at 3 to 5 cm. After each thinning, water once to settle the roots.
