How to improve the germination rate is knowledge every grower needs to master, and what you will often use is sprouting. In fact, there are different methods for melons, fruits and vegetables; different varieties require different methods, since it is still related to the environment and temperature, so they cannot be lumped together, and everyone needs to distinguish between them. Below, the editor will introduce you to common fruit and vegetable sprouting methods

1. Early spring sprouting

1. First, during the early spring period, the varieties that mainly need sprouting are the nightshade and pepper types, such as tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. They need to germinate in early spring, and the seedling period is one month, so just when the seedlings have grown, the outdoor temperature has become warm, which is exactly the right time for transplanting and planting.

2. In fact, there are roughly three methods of sprouting and seedling raising, and their principles are the same, but what the editor most recommends is the paper towel method for sprouting. First, blanch the seeds in water at 40 to 50 degrees, and stir constantly in the water so that the temperature drops to room temperature. This operation is to awaken the seeds. Generally, soaking the seeds at room temperature for twenty-four hours is enough for them to fully absorb water.

3. The next step is to prepare a plate, spread three to five paper towels on it, and make sure the paper towels are in a state like stone, but it is best not to have standing water. In fact, you can just spray them thoroughly with a spray bottle, then spread the soaked seeds evenly on the moist paper towels, then find a plastic bag and wrap the whole plate in it, then put it in a place where no sunlight can be seen, or under weak light conditions, but try to control the temperature at 25 to 30 degrees for sprouting.

4. The purpose of putting wet paper towels inside is to maintain humidity, so that the seeds will not dehydrate, and then the role of the plastic bag, besides ensuring humidity, is to keep warm, which will help the seeds sprout. In terms of normal time, only three to five days are needed, and then the next step can already be seedling raising. In fact, the paper towel method is also suitable for varieties such as cucumbers and pumpkins, only tomatoes are slightly later in planting time.

2. Mid-spring sprouting

For varieties such as bitter melon, seedlings need to be raised in mid-spring, as well as climbing vine vegetables such as loofah and snake beans. However, these vegetables all share one thing in common: their seed coats are especially hard, and also a bit thick. With ordinary methods, sprouting is relatively difficult. The editor suggests using the shell-breaking sprouting method. First soak the seeds in clean water for forty-eight hours, first letting the seed coats absorb water, then dry the soaked seeds and crack a small opening, then soak them in warm water at 30 degrees for twelve hours to let the seeds absorb water again. At this point, the paper towel method can be used to maintain sprouting.

3. Late spring sprouting

There is also another type suitable for sprouting in late spring, such as okra and asparagus. The characteristic of these seeds is also that the outer coat is relatively hard, and most are round, so direct sowing would make it very difficult for them to emerge. Therefore, sprouting is the most important step. In fact, their sprouting method is very simple: just soak them in warm water at 30 degrees at a constant temperature until they sprout. Okra only needs five days, while asparagus takes a longer time, about fifteen days before it sprouts.

There are also many varieties that do not need sprouting, most of which are leafy vegetables, such as small greens, lettuce and some other green leafy vegetables. These vegetables only need to be sown directly, and they emerge very quickly. Generally, they can emerge in 5 to 7 days. However, spring is about to arrive, so growers need to prepare in advance.
