Potato (Irish potato) Planting Time and Planting Methods Explained
Potato is a common vegetable on people's dining tables. Potato is also called Irish potato, murphy, and so on, and is deeply loved by the public. Today, the editor will introduce to you the planting time and planting methods of potato.
1. Potato planting time
Because temperatures in our country vary quite a lot, the potato planting time differs from region to region. Generally speaking, in most areas of our country, potatoes are planted during the period from October to December each year. Of course, if the temperature in a region is similar all year round, then they can be planted at any time. In some places in our country, potatoes are planted during the period from April to May, for example in the Northeast region; there are also two plantings in February, March and August, for example in Hunan and Shanxi; and there are also two plantings a year in January, February and September, for example in Zhejiang. So the potato planting time is basically determined by temperature, and therefore you can decide when to start sowing according to the temperature in your area.
2. Potato planting methods
1. Choosing and preparing the land
If potatoes are to have high yields, the choice of land is very important. Try to choose land with relatively fertile soil and relatively loose texture; among these, sandy land is most suitable for growing potatoes. Next, when preparing the land, dig as deep as possible, break the soil up finely, and then apply base fertilizer. This can not only eliminate weeds in the field but also prevent diseases, which is beneficial to the growth of potatoes.
2. Seed treatment
More than ten days before sowing, potatoes should be taken out and sprouted at a certain temperature. When most potato sprouts have grown to the length of a fingernail, move the potatoes outdoors to sun them for a week. Before sowing, cut the potatoes where they have sprouts. One potato can be cut into three to four pieces according to the sprouting situation. Dip them in ash and they can be taken for sowing.
3. Field management
When sowing, plant them at a certain spacing, because the underground growth of potatoes needs enough space; otherwise the potatoes that grow will be very small and the yield will be very low. Next, apply fertilizer once at planting time. Use farmyard manure as the main fertilizer as much as possible, and the fertilizer must not directly touch the seed pieces, otherwise it will burn the potatoes to death. When potatoes are flowering, inspect the potatoes, because at this time potatoes will show some diseases, and these diseases seriously affect the quality and yield of potatoes, so be very careful. Weeding in the field must be done especially carefully; do not pull the roots of the potatoes, especially during the flowering period. If the roots are loosened, at best the yield will be reduced, and at worst the whole plant will die.
The above are the planting time and planting methods of potato. I hope this can help all growers.
