Papaya has high nutritional value, so how should it be planted?
Most people would surely assume that papaya is just a type of mugua (Chinese quince), but that is not the case at all; papaya and mugua are fundamentally different. The white latex of papaya can be processed into meat tenderizer, and it contains plenty of nutrients that are greatly beneficial to the human body. It can inhibit tumor growth and can also inhibit the reproduction of bacteria and parasites. So how should papaya be planted?
1. Seed selection and breeding
1. Before planting, the seeds must be soaked until they sprout, so first put the seeds into a solution that can eliminate viruses, then after soaking, take them out and rinse them, then put them into baking soda and soak for about five hours; doing this will increase the chance of the seeds growing small sprouts.
2. After the seeds have soaked in the solution, take them out and rinse them clean with water, then place them in an environment with a temperature of about 30°C to let the seeds sprout in advance. If the seed coats of many seeds have split open and revealed the white inside, they can be planted.
3. If there is no medicine to make the seeds sprout in advance, we can put the seeds into water at a temperature of about 50°C and soak them for ten hours, then take the seeds out of the water and place them in an environment with a suitable temperature to let the seeds sprout in advance, keeping the soil moist; when the seed coats split open and reveal the white inside, they can be planted.
2. Sowing
Generally, spring sowing is chosen, and winter can also work if absolutely necessary. Then when spring comes, we need to transplant the well-grown seedlings to another place for planting; usually in October of the year, the seeds are planted indoors at a warm temperature, and the soil contains enough nutrients and moisture.
3. Field management
1. Seedlings are easily damaged. After the seeds are planted in the soil, if no special circumstances occur, the seedlings can emerge from the soil surface in about ten days. After the seedlings grow out of the soil, it is essential to ensure there is enough moisture in the soil.
2. When the seedlings grow three leaves, we should appropriately water the seedlings and apply fertilizer, generally once every two weeks. After planting is finished, we need to turn over and level the soil and clear away useless weeds. When turning the soil in winter, the soil should be cultivated so that it can protect the seedlings and let them safely pass through winter.
4. Pest and disease control
Papaya has poor resistance to pests and diseases, and it is very easy for it to “fall victim”. The branches, leaves, and flowers of papaya that have suffered from pests and diseases will all be damaged to varying degrees, and in this way the development of papaya will be hindered. We must strictly watch over the garden, turn over the soil during the seedling growth period, clear weeds, eliminate viruses on time, tidy the shape of the fruit trees, and prune the branches of the fruit trees. If disease symptoms occur, we must take corresponding measures to prevent and treat them.
