Perilla is a very common plant in our daily lives, often appearing on our dining tables. It can be used as a seasoning, or eaten raw and cooked in soups. Perilla is a very common plant in our daily lives, often appearing on our dining tables. It can be used as a seasoning, or eaten raw and cooked in soups. At the same time, it can also be extracted for medicinal use and cosmetics, giving it high economic value. So how do you plant perilla? How do you prevent perilla pests and diseases?

I. Perilla Planting Methods

1. Choosing and preparing the land

Perilla has fairly strong adaptability to its environment and is not picky about soil quality. As long as drainage is good and there is plenty of sunlight, it will do fine. Of course, if the soil is relatively fertile, it will certainly grow even better. When preparing the land, you can also properly level the ground and then make ridges and furrows, which helps with drainage.

2. Irrigation and fertilization

For sowing, it is best to choose a time after rain or when rain is coming soon. If there is no rain for several days after sowing, then artificial irrigation will be needed. Of course, if it rains for several days in a row, then drainage will be needed. An environment that is too moist is still not very suitable for perilla growth. Perilla has a relatively short growing period, so a concentrated fertilization should be done at the time of sowing. The second fertilization should be done when perilla has grown to about 15-20cm, but when fertilizing you must be especially careful never to scatter fertilizer onto the leaves.

3. Sowing methods

There are two ways to plant perilla. One is to sow seeds directly on the prepared land, scattering them row by row according to density. The second is to first sow the seeds on one patch of land, and after seedlings grow, transplant them.

II. Prevention and Control of Perilla Pests and Diseases

1. Diseases

During cultivation, perilla can also develop some diseases, such as powdery mildew. When this disease appears, the two agents Xiansheng and Shigao should be used for spraying, which can effectively prevent powdery mildew. Leaf spot disease often appears at the time of perilla harvest, generally caused by plant density being too low, insufficient sunlight, or soil that is too moist. So this means that when planting, you must pay attention to density and drainage. Once this disease appears, spray with mancozeb or Bordeaux mixture.

2. Insect pests

The two most common pests of perilla are red spider mites and silver-marked noctuid moths. They feed on perilla leaves. To remove silver-marked noctuid moths, just use the most common trichlorfon, while for red spider mites, use dimethoate emulsion specifically to spray and kill them.

The above is Tuliuwang's introduction to perilla planting methods and pest and disease prevention measures. Although perilla is a plant that is relatively easy to grow and very easy to keep alive, you still need to pay attention to planting methods and field management, otherwise it will be difficult to achieve the expected yield.
