When it comes to spring vegetables, everyone is already fairly familiar with Toona sinensis. In recent years the Toona sinensis market has been booming; one jin often costs more than meat, and demand exceeds supply, so it has to be reserved in advance, with many regions buying it up in large quantities from rural areas. The reason Toona sinensis is so popular is inseparable from its nutritional value and taste. Because of market demand, more and more people are now growing Toona sinensis. So are you clear about Toona sinensis planting techniques? Let's take a look together!

Toona sinensis planting techniques

1. Seed selection and germination

First, we need to select suitable seeds for the first step. For the seeds, it is recommended to choose plump ones with even color, and not to pick seeds that are flawed or diseased. After selection, the germination work begins. To ensure the subsequent germination rate, the seeds are generally placed in warm water at about 40 degrees and soaked for 5-8 minutes, stirring constantly during soaking. After soaking, remove them and place them in room-temperature water to soak for one day. Once the seeds have absorbed enough water, remove them and drain the water. Finally, place the seeds in a dry place to air-dry. During the drying process, do not choose a day with blazing sun; any sunny day is fine. Too strong a sun will crack the seeds open.

2. Sowing and raising seedlings

Before starting the seedling raising and sowing work, we must first choose a suitable piece of soil. Like with other green plants, just choose a place with gentle terrain and access to light and water. Use planting tools to turn the soil, then add base fertilizer, and then begin the other steps. Evenly scatter the germinated seeds, cover with a layer of fine soil, keep the temperature at 20-23 degrees, weed regularly, and maintain soil moisture and air humidity. They will sprout and emerge within a week. During the seedling stage, strengthen fertilizer and water management to promote seedling growth.

3. Field planting

After taking dwarfing measures for the plants, field planting can be carried out. For field planting, greenhouse cultivation should be chosen, generally creating a greenhouse environment through plastic tunnel technology. For field planting, first prepare the land and apply fertilizer; each mu requires about 5000 kg of suitable organic fertilizer and some other fertilizers. Spread evenly and plow deeply, then prepare the beds and plant the seedlings. The bed width is generally about 1 m. Once the preliminary work is done, field planting can proceed. When planting, keep the roots with soil, mainly to avoid damaging the root system. The planting density is about 30,000 plants per mu, with a spacing of 15×15cm.

4. Harvesting

After field planting, strengthen management and pay attention to factors such as temperature, light and moisture. The optimal growing temperature for Toona sinensis is 20-25 degrees. It likes light and does not tolerate shade, but it is averse to strong light exposure, so pay attention to the duration of light. On cloudy and rainy days, artificial supplemental lighting can be used, and during strong light, shade promptly. It likes humidity but is averse to waterlogging; water promptly during drought, and in the rainy season take good drainage and waterlogging prevention measures. Kept in this environment, Toona sinensis will sprout extremely quickly, but it can be harvested once the Toona shoots grow to 15-20 and emerge.
