Black goji berry, also known as Su goji berry, is a green health food that has gradually become popular in recent years, and it is distributed in Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai, Xinjiang and other places in China. So today, the editor will introduce to you the cultivation methods of black goji berry.

1. Site selection and land preparation

The growing environment for black goji berry first of all requires sufficient light, so the orchard should be established in a place with relatively flat terrain, enough sunlight, fertile and loose soil, and convenient irrigation. It is best to create a shelterbelt; the main purpose of the shelterbelt is to facilitate the management of black goji berry, such as fertilizing, drainage and irrigation, and cultivating. Before planting, the orchard should be deep-plowed and the soil turned, and base fertilizer should be mixed in. Starting in the autumn of the year before planting is most suitable, because this is conducive to the growth and development of the newly planted black goji berry and improves the survival rate. Then make field beds at least 1 m wide to facilitate later management.

2. Propagation methods

The propagation methods of black goji berry include three ways: sowing, division, and cuttings. Sowing is generally carried out around the Beginning of Spring in spring, and seedlings will begin to bloom and bear fruit within three years. Division propagation is mainly carried out in spring when the old plants begin to sprout. Division propagation is relatively simple among the three propagation methods. Cutting propagation is generally carried out in April and October. Before propagation, select a superior plant's leggy branches from the previous year or branches with plump flower buds, cut them into cuttings of about 12 cm, then insert the cuttings into water at a row spacing of 20×15 cm, leaving 1/3 exposed, press them firm, and water them.

3. Field management

Black goji berry should be cultivated and weeded in a timely manner. Cultivation is to turn the soil once to enhance soil permeability and prevent the soil from being too compacted, which affects root respiration. However, when turning the soil, be careful not to damage the roots. Weeding is to prevent some weeds from competing with black goji berry for nutrients, water, sunlight, and other substances essential to black goji berry, and it can also enhance ventilation and air permeability in the field. During the seedling stage, fertilizer should be applied at least three times, each time using urea as the main fertilizer. After flowering and fruiting, apply phosphorus compound fertilizer twice as a top dressing. Pay attention to the moisture conditions in the orchard. Black goji berry is not suitable for growing in moist environments, so pay attention to drainage.

4. Harvesting and processing

The best harvest time for black goji berry each year is around June in summer. When the black goji berries are black with a hint of red, the fruit stalks are relatively loose, and the fruits are about to fall, harvesting can begin. However, when harvesting, pick and place them gently; excessive force will cause the fruits to rupture and lose their value. Spread the harvested fruits flat in a timely manner, try not to pile them up, and the thickness should not exceed 1 cm. After spreading them flat, let them be exposed to the sun to evaporate moisture and become dried fruit. Never turn them over.

The above is an introduction to the cultivation methods of black goji berry. I hope it can help all growers!
