Tomato is one of the most common vegetables in daily life, with a sweet-and-sour taste that is refreshing to eat. To let everyone enjoy tomatoes all year round, greenhouse cultivation is becoming more and more widespread. So how do you safely grow greenhouse tomatoes through the summer? Here are high-yield cultivation techniques.

1. How do you safely grow greenhouse tomatoes through the summer?

At present, the most effective cooling measure is shading. Shade nets, cooling agents and the like are widely used. Summer weather is unusually changeable, so only by using shade nets and cooling agents correctly can you avoid high temperatures and steer clear of a low-light, high-humidity environment, thereby meeting the needs of summer greenhouse tomato growth.

The shade nets currently on the market are mainly black and silver-gray. Black shade nets have a high shading rate and cool down quickly, and are suitable for short-term coverage in fields that need fine management in the heat of summer; silver-gray shade nets have a low shading rate and are suitable for light-loving vegetables and long-term coverage. Summer greenhouse tomatoes mostly use black shade nets.

2. High-Yield Cultivation Techniques for Greenhouse Tomatoes

1. Variety selection

Choose varieties with good early maturity, cold resistance, disease resistance, high yield, good market quality and a long shelf life.

2. Land preparation, fertilization and bed making

The base fertilizer should focus on high-quality organic fertilizer, combined with microbial inoculants and a small amount of chemical fertilizer. It is recommended to apply 100-120kg of “Haizhuangyuan” bio-organic fertilizer per mu, together with 40kg of “Haizhuangyuan” full micronutrients + about 120kg of “Haizhuangyuan” organic-inorganic compound fertilizer. The base fertilizer should mainly be applied deeply, with deep plowing of 25-750px, then raked level to make beds. Tomatoes are best grown on raised beds, with the raised beds shaped like a turtle's back to avoid water accumulating at the roots.

Advantages of this scheme: because organic fertilizer mineralizes slowly, it will not cause obvious accumulation of nitrate in the plant, and it also helps form soil aggregates, improving the soil's water- and fertilizer-retention capacity and buffering capacity, and enhancing permeability. In addition, applying an appropriate amount of microbial inoculants can promote the reproduction of beneficial microbial communities in the rhizosphere, inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria, and enhance tomato disease resistance.

3. Greenhouse disinfection

The greenhouse must be disinfected before planting. For each mu, mix 250g of 80% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate with sawdust, combine it with 2000-3000g of sulfur powder, divide it into 10 spots and ignite them, keep it sealed for a full day and night, and ventilate until there is no odor before planting.

4. Planting time and method

Tomatoes can generally be planted in late early February to early mid-February. When planting, apply “Haizhuangyuan” Shuangdongli bacterial fertilizer into the holes, which helps prevent soil-borne diseases. The planting density of tomatoes is 2500-3000 plants per mu, depending on the variety and soil fertility. After planting is completed, immediately water with “Haizhuangyuan” seaweed rooting agent + seaweed bacterial dew, to help activate the soil and promote root respiration. Then close the greenhouse to raise the temperature, to help the seedlings recover.

5. Fertilizer and water management in the greenhouse

Before the first cluster of fruit has set, basically no watering or fertilizing is needed, so as to avoid excessive vegetative growth that delays reproductive growth. After the first cluster of fruit has set, apply topdressing together with watering. It is recommended to apply 16kg of “Haizhuangyuan” concentrated seaweed fertilizer per mu. After that, apply topdressing once every 2 harvests, with 15-20kg of “Haizhuangyuan” Shuangzao Youguo per mu. Never apply nitrogen fertilizer one-sidedly, otherwise stress resistance decreases and fruit quality declines. At the same time, spray the leaves with 2000-times “Haizhuangyuan” seaweed extract + 1000-times “Haizhuangyuan” signal calcium, to improve fruit quality and prevent blossom-end rot.

6. Preserving flowers and fruits and thinning flowers and fruits

When the temperature is below 15°C, tomatoes tend to drop flowers and fruits, affecting yield. Therefore, on the basis of ensuring temperature, you can spray 800-times “Haizhuangyuan” Huaguofeng during the flowering period to increase the fruit-setting rate and prevent flowers from failing to set fruit. If too many fruits are set, deformed flowers and deformed fruits should also be thinned in time, with 3-4 fruits per cluster being appropriate.
