What causes bean sprouts to rot, and how should it be solved?
Rotten bean sprouts are a problem that gives many people a headache. So what causes bean sprouts to rot? And how should we solve this problem? Follow the editor of Tuliu.com and take a look below~
1. Causes of rotten bean sprouts
Rotten bean sprouts are mainly caused by infection with pathogenic bacteria. Especially when production takes place in seasons that are too cold or too hot, the pathogens come on fiercely, catching producers off guard and even leading to the loss of the entire “sprout” crop. The reasons generally include the following five points:
① The bean seeds themselves carry pathogenic bacteria
② The containers and tools holding the bean sprouts are not strictly disinfected
③ The temperature is too high or too low
④ Watering is not timely and the water quality is not clean
⑤ Air pollution
2. Countermeasures for rotten bean sprouts
1. Carefully select beans
Choose plump, full bean seeds. During soaking, carefully remove diseased seeds, shriveled seeds, damaged seeds and broken seeds. Then wash the seeds with a 59 bleaching powder solution and 5 liang of stone water. Hot water can also be used to soak the seeds, which not only helps disinfect and sterilize the surface of the bean seeds, but also promotes the enzyme activity of the bean seeds, improves germination, and reduces the disease rate.
2. The workshop and tools should be kept clean and disinfected regularly
If conditions permit, the bean sprout production workshop should be equipped with 40W ultraviolet sterilizing lamps, and the lamps should be turned on regularly for sterilization. The production site should be managed by dedicated personnel, and outsiders should not be allowed to visit. Bean sprout production personnel are strictly forbidden to come into contact with oil stains and chemicals. Do not use oil-absorbing skin care products, hair oil, cosmetics, etc. Entering the workshop after drinking alcohol is strictly forbidden. Prevent bacterial intrusion.
3. Strictly disinfect the containers holding the beans
In addition to keeping the containers and tools used for producing bean sprouts clean, they must all be strictly disinfected before use. Generally, 05% bleaching powder or 359 alum solution can be used for cleaning and disinfection, and a torch can also be used to burn them several times so that attached pathogens die.
4. Control the temperature
The growth temperature of bean sprouts is 20-25C. During production, the room temperature must be adjusted to this temperature, so that the bean sprouts grow quickly at a suitable temperature and the occurrence of rotten sprouts is reduced.
5. Water quality must be clean
It is recommended to use well water or stream water. It is strictly forbidden to use unclean pond water or river water. Well water and stream water are pollution-free, and because they are warm in winter and cool in summer, they play a very good regulating role in promoting bean sprout growth and preventing bean sprout clumping, and are highly effective in preventing rotten sprouts. At the same time, watering should be done at fixed times and in fixed amounts, generally once every 4-6 hours, so that the waste and dirt from the bean sprouts' metabolism are washed away with the water flow.
6. Pharmaceutical prevention and control
In the early stage of bean sprout disease, use 1 small packet of “8503" (produced by Guizhou Daodang Plant Regulator Factory) mixed with 2.5 kg of water and spray it once every hour, which can inhibit the spread of pathogens. Or use EJ--2 disinfectant diluted 200 times and spray it on diseased beans to control expansion. Note: At present, bacterial rot medicines can only control it, not cure it completely. Once the bacteria develop drug resistance, the only options are to change the site or stop production for a period.
