What cherry varieties are there? How should you choose the right one?
The cherry variety determines the value of cherry cultivation. Chinese cherry varieties can be divided by fruit color into red types and yellow types, and by fruit shape into the round-fruited group and the heart-shaped group. Below, the Tudou editor will teach you What cherry varieties are there? How do you choose a cherry variety? Take a look together
1. How to choose a variety
The main considerations are the variety's adaptability, high yield and commercial value. Generally, large fruit, good coloring, excellent quality, good storage tolerance and resistance to fruit cracking are required. In the past, Chinese cherries were mostly cultivated; in recent years the trend has been to cultivate sweet cherries, which have higher quality and value.
Chinese cherries and a very few sweet cherry varieties such as Stella and Lapins have strong self-fertility and can set fruit normally without a pollinizer variety, but most sweet cherry varieties have a very low self-fertility rate and must be provided with pollinizer trees. The pollinizer tree should be a variety with strong pollination compatibility with the main variety, an overlapping flowering period, strong adaptability and high yield, and high economic value; it is best if it is self-fertile and can also pollinate other varieties, such as Stella. If the main varieties are generally Dazi, Hongdeng, Rainier, Bing and Xianfeng, then the pollinizer varieties that can be selected include Nahong, Hongmi, Stella, Shuijing and Lambert. The ratio of main variety to pollinizer variety is best at 1:1 or 2:1.
