Straw mushroom is also called orchid mushroom. It is nutritious and tastes very good, with tender, smooth and refreshing flesh, and has high health benefits. It is the type of fungus among all edible fungi that yields the fastest economic return. So how do straw mushrooms reproduce? Attached are the cultivation conditions and precautions for straw mushrooms!

I. Reproduction Methods of Straw Mushroom

There are two reproduction methods for straw mushroom, namely sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction refers to the phenomenon in which straw mushrooms use their own spores to germinate, produce haploids, and then form mycelium under different sex conditions, thereby producing mushrooms. Asexual reproduction refers to a method in which, after multiple rounds of cultivation, spawn is formed, and then inoculation, mycelial growth and mushroom production are carried out. At present, the most commonly used reproduction method in daily life is the asexual reproduction of straw mushroom.

II. Cultivation Conditions of Straw Mushroom

In fact, the cultivation conditions of edible fungi are all relatively strict, so straw mushroom is no exception, but its cultivation conditions differ greatly from those of many edible fungi. The place where straw mushroom is planted must have a long and continuous water source and be convenient for irrigation, because straw mushroom has a very large water requirement. Next, the cultivation substrate must be alkaline, which is the biggest difference between straw mushroom and other fungi. Finally, straw mushroom cannot carry out photosynthesis, so it must not be exposed to direct sunlight.

III. Cultivation Techniques of Straw Mushroom

The planting time for straw mushroom in southern China is generally between the end of May and September each year, and the best planting time is the first ten days of July each year. In northern regions, cultivation is suitable in June and July each year. If greenhouse cultivation is used, it can generally be planted throughout the year. The most common cultivation techniques for straw mushroom are five types, namely the straw mushroom heap-style cultivation technique, the plastic foam house year-round cultivation technique, the straw mushroom bag-style cultivation technique, the straw mushroom bed-style cultivation technique and the straw mushroom raised-bed cultivation technique.

IV. Precautions

When planting straw mushroom, there are many points we need to pay attention to, such as nutrition, temperature, humidity, oxygen, pH and light. During the growth and development of straw mushroom, the most important thing is the moisture content, which is generally controlled at about 70%. During the mycelial growth period, the humidity is about 80%, while during the mushroom emergence stage, the humidity should be controlled at about 90%. The temperature for mycelium growth should be controlled between 10-40 degrees, and the most suitable temperature for straw mushroom growth is between 28-32 degrees. Note that the maximum temperature must not exceed 45 degrees, and the minimum must not be lower than 5 degrees. Finally, straw mushroom growth cannot carry out photosynthesis, but this does not mean that no light is needed at all. Proper light can promote the growth of mycelium, but it must not be excessive.
