1. Fine cultivation
Garlic is a vegetable with extremely strong adaptability, very easy to grow, and with an extremely high survival rate, so its requirements for the planting site are not high. Generally, almost any planting site that can be used for growing vegetables can be used to grow garlic scape, but it is best to use a plot with relatively loose soil texture and good aeration. Before planting, plow the land deeply, break the soil clods into fine pieces and level them, then open furrows and make beds at a width of 1.5 m. After making the beds, it is best to spread sufficient farmyard manure or organic compost, mix in a small amount of cake fertilizer, and fully mix it with the soil. If the soil pH does not meet the standard, chemical fertilizer can also be appropriately used to improve the soil. Finally, disinfect the soil, level the bed surface, and dredge the water ditches, and then sowing can be carried out.
2. Sowing and raising seedlings
Because there are more and more varieties of garlic scape, garlic scape can now basically be planted all year round. However, if planted according to the previous traditional method of garlic scape cultivation, it is generally planted in August and September each year. Although the germination rate of garlic scape is very high and it is very easy to grow, before sowing it is still best to soak it in water for 12 hours, then put it into a special agent for seed dressing, remove it and dry it, place the treated seeds evenly at a row spacing of 20 cm and a plant spacing of 10 cm, and finally cover with soil to conceal the seeds, water once, and cover with a layer of plastic film or a layer of rice straw.
3. Seedling stage management
After sowing, seedlings generally emerge in about 10 days, so preparations need to be made in advance for breaking the film and removing the rice straw. During this period of seedling emergence, if we encounter missing seedlings, we need to use a small hoe or iron wire to check. If the seeds have rotted and still cannot emerge on their own, then assist the emergence. If the soil is relatively dry, appropriately spray water to ensure the normal growth of the seedlings. When the seedlings grow to about 10 cm, carry out final planting, that is, thin out the excess seedlings.
4. Field management
After final planting, water appropriately. In order to promote the growth of the seedlings, we also need to carry out topdressing, mainly nitrogen fertilizer, but it needs to be diluted with water before irrigation.
