How to grow sandalwood (bathing fragrant)? The cultivation method of the golden tree
Sandalwood is a plant with high medicinal value, and every part of it is treasured. It is known as the “golden tree” and has high economic value. So, what cultivation methods does sandalwood have? Let's find out together!
1. Planting time
The temperature suitable for sandalwood growth is generally between 20 and 35 degrees. There is actually no great restriction on its planting time; it can generally be planted all year round. However, later planting experience proved that the best planting time is July and August each year, when the survival rate is higher, while sandalwood planted at other times generally has a survival rate no higher than 70 percent. Sandalwood is very precious, and to reduce risk and losses, it is still best to choose the optimal time for planting.
2. Forest land improvement
Sandalwood has relatively high requirements for the planting site, and there are very few sites that meet sandalwood's natural growing conditions, which is one reason sandalwood is scarce. Therefore, before planting, the site needs to be improved so that it at least meets sandalwood's most basic growing requirements. The planting site should have sufficient sunlight, be close to a water source, have fertile soil and good drainage, and then sufficient organic fertilizer should be spread on the land, after which machinery should be used to deep-plow the land and mix the fertilizer evenly.
3. Digging holes and planting
Once the land is prepared, planting can begin. Sandalwood planting generally requires digging holes in advance. The width of each hole is generally 40 cm, and the depth is also about 40 cm. The spacing between each hole is about 5 m. After digging the holes according to this specification, finally place the sandalwood seedlings into the holes, fill them with soil, and set them in place.
4. Management and care
The management and care of sandalwood is crucial, as it directly relates to the survival of the sandalwood tree, its growth, the quality of the sandalwood, and various other issues. Newly planted sandalwood trees are relatively weak, so when fertilizing, the principle of frequent application of thin fertilizer should be followed, applying compound fertilizer once a week by irrigation. Later, in the basic stage, it only needs to be applied once a month. However, in addition to compound fertilizer, nitrogen fertilizer, phosphorus fertilizer, potassium fertilizer, organic matter, and so on also need to be applied to avoid poor growth of the sandalwood tree.
5. Pruning techniques
Pruning techniques are also very important. We should promptly cut away the false wormwood, generally during the hot and rainy periods of spring and summer. To prevent the sandalwood tree from bending, stakes should be set up for support, mainly using small sticks. To avoid the sandalwood tree dying, when each new shoot grows about 5 cm, we should remove the excess buds and keep only one bud. Finally, the sandalwood tree needs a pruning of branches and leaves once a year to reduce nutrient consumption and promote the growth of the sandalwood tree.
