Red fruit, also known as Surinam cherry, Brazilian red fruit, or ridged-fruit rose apple, is an excellent tree species whose tree can be used for ornamental purposes and whose fruit can be eaten. Its fruit is very brightly colored, its taste is quite delicious, and it is refreshing to eat. So how much does red fruit cost per jin? With an introduction to bonsai cultivation methods.

1. How much does red fruit cost per jin?

The current market price of red fruit ranges from several tens of yuan to several hundred yuan, making it a relatively expensive type. In today's food processing industry, its edible value - juicy flesh with a slightly sour taste - has been put to use, and it is now an essential processing ingredient for making high-quality soft candies such as jelly, jam and juice.

Red fruit can serve as a landscaping tree species in tropical regions, so in northern China it is often used as an ornamental roadside plant, while in the south some people also grow it as a potted ornamental plant. As an excellent flowering and foliage plant with extremely high environmental protection value and ornamental value, it is not surprising that red fruit is relatively expensive.

2. Introduction to bonsai cultivation methods for red fruit

Red fruit is suitable for growing in slightly acidic sandy soil that is rich in humus, loose and fertile, and has good air permeability. For potted cultivation, mix 5 parts humus soil, 3 parts garden soil and 2 parts sandy soil, and blend in a small amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers such as superphosphate and bone meal. During the growing season, place it outdoors in a spot with ample sunlight and good air circulation for care; during high summer temperatures, provide appropriate shading to prevent exposure to the scorching sun;

During the growing period, water frequently, do not let the pot soil dry out, and regularly spray water on the plant and the surrounding environment to increase air humidity. Although red fruit likes fertilizer, it does not like concentrated fertilizer, so apply thin fertilizer frequently; apply 1 application of well-rotted dilute liquid fertilizer every 10-15 days. For young trees or during the shoot-sprouting stage, mainly use nitrogen fertilizer; at other times, apply compound fertilizer mainly based on phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

In winter, move it indoors, control watering, and it can overwinter safely above 5°C. Red fruit tolerates pruning and can be pruned and shaped according to different tree forms. During the growing period, remove useless buds at any time and pinch the tips at the right time to keep the plant form perfect. Repot once every 2 years or so in spring; when repotting, remove 2/3 of the old soil, cut off overly long old roots, and replant with new culture soil.

August is the flower bud differentiation period of red fruit. Watering should be appropriately controlled and more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer should be applied; by October, flower buds will appear. In winter, pay attention to keeping it warm, and the temperature must not be lower than 10°C. In early December, some old leaves fall off and flowering begins one after another. During the flowering period, do not let water splash onto the flowers when watering. For outdoor planting in the south, also pay attention to rain protection to avoid flower drop.

Because the flowering period is in winter, there are few insects available for pollination, so artificial pollination can be carried out every morning to increase fruit set. Red fruit has the habit of flowering and fruiting at the same time. In order to make the fruit uniform in size, try to keep the same batch of fruit; when the fruit reaches the required quantity, the remaining flower buds can be cut off, and small fruit, weak fruit and overly dense fruit can be thinned out so that the fruit is uniform in size. Once the fruit is stable, increase the amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer; apply 1 spray of 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution about every 7 days. By r2 to March, the fruit matures, which is the best ornamental period for red fruit. If the winter temperature is relatively low, the flowering period of red fruit will be postponed to February to March of the following year, and the fruit will mature one after another only in May to June.
