Green beans, also known as common beans, white kidney beans, pole beans, sword beans, kidney beans, jade beans, and qu dou, are annual, twining or nearly upright herbaceous plants of the legume family, and their tender fresh pods can be eaten as a vegetable. Below is an introduction to the planting time and methods for green beans.

1. Planting time for green beans:

Green beans are generally sown from April to June, and can be grown year-round in greenhouses.

2. Planting methods for green beans:

1. Deep soil with good drainage that is neutral or slightly acidic is best; heavy, poorly drained soil is not very suitable.

2. Cultivate in single or double raised ridges, with a row spacing of 0.8-1 m, a plant spacing of 0.35-0.45 m, sowing 2-3 seeds per hole, at a sowing depth of 10-15 cm, with 1500-2200 holes per mu; it can be grown alone or intercropped.

3. Apply 1500 kg of farmyard manure and 40-50 kg of compound fertilizer (30 kg of phosphate fertilizer, 10-15 kg of potassium fertilizer) per mu as a base fertilizer, and apply compound fertilizer twice as a top dressing at the beginning of flowering and during pod setting, 10-15 kg per mu each time.

4. Set up trellises when 5-6 true leaves appear; when the plants are 50 cm tall, remove the growing tips, and repeatedly remove newly emerging tips so that the plants form a low bushy shape, reducing height and increasing the number of flowers and pods.

3. Precautions for growing green beans:

1. Green beans are relatively cold-tolerant and dislike high temperatures; when the temperature is below 5 degrees, the aboveground parts will die, and above 30 degrees or below 15 degrees, pollination and pod setting become difficult.

2. Green beans are short-day crops and like plenty of sunlight; the shorter the daylight and the more abundant the sunlight, the earlier green beans flower, set pods, and mature, and vice versa, they are delayed or fail to flower and set pods.

3. Green beans require relatively sufficient and even moisture throughout the whole growth period, with the greatest water demand during flowering and pod setting; if water is lacking, the yield will be affected.
