From a cultivation perspective, most plants in the Cymbidium genus are rather delicate and hard to care for. Qiuzhi is different, being one of the tougher species among Cymbidium plants.

The native habitat of Qiuzhi is mostly on cliffs in sparse forest belts or thickets above the mountainside, sometimes growing epiphytically on tree forks. It is robust and easy to grow, and in horticultural cultivation it can adapt both to semi-natural indoor and semi-indoor growing environments and to open-air cultivation in outdoor courtyards. If grown in a southeast-facing position that receives only the morning sun or the forenoon sun, no shading is needed at all; if it receives the afternoon sun, then semi-shading is sufficient. Although full sunlight may slightly scorch the leaf tips, the leaves become thick and hard with a strong upright habit, the plant as a whole is rugged and vigorous, its resistance to pests and diseases is strong, and it blooms profusely with lush foliage; if the growing environment is too heavily shaded, the plant becomes weak and soft, is reluctant to flower, and is easily troubled by disease.

Qiuzhi likes to grow in clumps, so it is generally cultivated in medium or large pots, and the growing medium can be somewhat coarse, preferably with a certain fertility and good drainage and aeration. Generally, use 60% oak leaves, plus 20% chestnut bark or other tree bark, 10% tree-fern fiber, and 10% granular soil that does not break down in water; Qiuzhi planted this way is plump and robust, with both flowers and leaves thriving, and the rate of new shoot production is also relatively high. In terms of water management, it is best to keep it on the dry side.

Because Qiuzhi plants are robust, willing to flower, and bear multiple flowers on a single scape, they have high ornamental value, are easy to grow with strong resistance, tolerate sun to a certain extent, and can be managed extensively. They are one of the orchid varieties more suitable for landscaping in courtyards or other sites, and have fairly broad prospects for development and application.
