How to Grow Cacti? Detailed Guide to Planting Methods and Precautions
To grow cacti, you first need to prepare suitable soil for their growth, master the correct watering method, and provide sufficient sunlight, along with appropriate fertilization. In addition, you should also take care to avoid rain during thunderstorms, and control the temperature difference well when the weather is cold. You can make a closed shelter with plastic film on a balcony, maintain appropriate temperature and humidity, and place the cactus inside. It will not only grow faster but also produce very beautiful flowers.
I. Planting Methods for Cacti
Cacti grow best in loose and well-aerated nutrient soil. For a homemade mix, you can use vermiculite : fine sand : fully decomposed humus in a 4:4:2 ratio; newly planted cacti do not need watering, and after half a month they should be watered only a small amount. After one month, once new roots have grown, normal watering can begin; when caring for them at home, cacti should be given sufficient sunlight, but at midday in summer, when the sunlight is too intense, they should be shaded to avoid sunburn.
II. Planting Precautions
Do not let cacti be exposed to rain, especially during the plum rain season. If they are rained on and then exposed to light, it can easily cause the roots to rot and the plant to die; be careful to keep the temperature difference for cacti from being too large, and at most it must not exceed 10°C, otherwise alternating cold and heat can easily cause cacti to wilt and may even cause frost damage. If the temperature drops sharply, the cactus should be moved indoors in time for care.
