How much was a jin of lychees in 2019, and what are the growing conditions?

It is almost time for lychees to ripen, and just thinking about it makes me a little excited. Lychee is a fruit with a very high sweetness, and common varieties include Feizixiao and Sanyuehong, with thin skin, large flesh and small pits, making it very refreshing to eat. However, eating too many lychees easily causes internal heat, so do not eat too much each time.

Below let us take a look at how much was a jin of lychees in 2019? What are the growing conditions?

1. How much was a jin of lychees in 2019?

Because it is not yet the time when lychees are widely available on the market, the price is relatively expensive, and it varies greatly from place to place. At the same time, the prices of fresh lychees and dried lychees are different.

The lychee price at the Beijing Tongzhou Bal ĭqiáo Agricultural Products Center Wholesale Market is 17.5 yuan per jin; the lychee price at the Xinjiang Yanqi County Guangming Agricultural and Sideline Products Comprehensive Wholesale Market is 4 yuan per jin; the lychee price at the Zhejiang Yiwu Agricultural Trade City is 6 yuan per jin.

Different varieties of lychees come to market at different times. For example, the Sanyuehong variety generally ripens in late March of the lunar calendar and is the earliest-ripening lychee variety. Its skin is green with red, the shell is thick, and the cracked surface of the skin is prickly to the touch. Baitangying comes to market from late May to mid-June, the fruit body is relatively large, flat in shape, with an eccentric heart shape, the pit is not large, but it is not as small and pointed as that of Nuo Mi Ci, the juice is scant, and the mouthfeel is substantial. It is accompanied by a faint plant aroma.

2. What are the growing conditions for lychees?

Because lychee originated in the southern subtropical region of our country, the average annual temperature in the main producing areas is 20-30°C, and its temperature requirements are relatively strict, thus limiting its cultivation distribution. During growth and development it requires high temperature and humidity, with the optimum growth temperature being 23-29°C, and growth is slow at 10-12°C. In winter there must be a certain period of appropriate low temperature to help inhibit vegetative growth and promote flower bud differentiation. In spring it begins to flower only above 10°C, and flowering is most abundant at 18-24°C. Low temperature and overcast rain during the flowering period and young fruit period cause a large amount of flower and fruit drop, and even total crop failure. At 0-2°C it suffers low-temperature damage, but mature trees can withstand -2.8°C or even lower when there is no growth activity.

Lychee growth requires sufficient water, requiring annual rainfall of more than 1200mm, and the annual rainfall in the main producing areas of South China is 1500-1800m. Lychee likes light, and has the name “lychee of the day.” According to an analysis of the climate of our city over the past 20 years, it is believed that: generally January with low temperature (11-15°C), many clear days (12-22 days), long sunshine duration (117h), few rainy days (less than 5-10) days, rainfall of less than 50mm, and relative humidity below 73% makes a high-yield year. During the vigorous growth period of lychee and before fruit harvest, typhoons are taboo. It can adapt to mountain red and yellow soils, flatland sandy loam, alluvial soil, and even clay, but it is best to use acidic (PH5-6) sandy loam with deep soil layers, good drainage and irrigation, more than 2% organic matter, loose soil, and the ability to promote the reproduction of root fungi. The general requirement is that the long-term vegetative growth period needs sufficient sunlight and plenty of rain, the flower bud differentiation period needs low temperature and dryness, and the fruit development period needs clear weather, with one rain every few days being best.

When planting lychees, you should choose some high-quality saplings. What counts as a high-quality sapling? We should check the thickness of the sapling, which is about two centimeters, and the height of the sapling should not be less than 60 cm. Also, the branches of the sapling should have three or 4 branches. If the surface of the resin is rough or there are signs of insect gnawing, then we should not choose this kind of sapling. A better sapling will have a few tender leaves growing on it, and we should also observe whether the root system of the sapling is complete; if the sapling is poor, it will not grow tall.
