What are the planting methods for garlic? Learn it all in one article
To plant garlic, you need to select suitable soil and make raised beds; then sow the prepared garlic sprouts, cover with soil, and water; depending on the temperature, carry out field management after the seedlings emerge, which mainly involves removing weeds, irrigation, fertilization, and eliminating pests and diseases; finally choose a sunny day to arrange harvesting, and after drying in a ventilated place, store according to quality.
Garlic Planting Methods
1. Planting Time
Garlic is mostly planted in winter and spring, because the seedlings cannot tolerate cold temperatures. It is recommended not to sow in autumn in the north. If you have a greenhouse, you can sow and raise seedlings in autumn in the north, and plant the small seedlings the following year.
2. Land Preparation and Bed Making
Garlic does not have high soil requirements; ordinary garden soil is enough for planting. Before sowing, first prepare the land, turn the soil to a depth of 20cm, clear out stones from the field, and then plow the land into raised beds. The size of the beds is arbitrary, which is very convenient for drainage and irrigation.
3. Planting into the Soil
In garlic planting methods, before sowing, remove the stem plate and outer skin, and choose larger garlic cloves as seeds. The larger the seed, the higher the yield. Sun-dry the seeds for one day for germination treatment, but do not expose them to strong sun. Plant the garlic at a certain spacing, about 1cm deep, and water thoroughly.
4. Watering and Fertilizing
From seed germination to harvest, garlic needs sufficient moisture throughout the entire process, and also requires some chemical fertilizers and organic fertilizers. Before planting, apply 5000kg of organic fertilizer per mu as base fertilizer, and mix it into the soil when plowing. Then spread some compound fertilizer every month, and water immediately after fertilizing so that the fertilizer is fully absorbed.
Overall, the planting methods for garlic are not difficult. If you want to give it a try, you can observe the weather conditions and then have a go.
