The Complete Guide to Ant Control Methods: Solve Your Ant Problem with Ease
For ant control, you can use a 500-1000x dilution of 90% or higher trichlorfon stock solution, a 1000-1500x dilution of 50% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate, a 2000-3000x dilution of 80% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate, or a 0.1% pyrethrin kerosene solvent spray. If you prefer not to use chemicals, you can mix baking soda with powdered sugar and plant essential oils, then sprinkle it where the ants are. Alternatively, place strong-smelling items such as orange peel, cucumber peel, or garlic in areas where ants frequently appear.
1. Wipe Away with a Damp Cloth
If you find a single line or multiple lines of ants on the move, you can wipe them away with a damp cloth and drop it into a basin of laundry detergent water to drown them.
2. Laundry Detergent Water Barrier
Since ants drown as soon as they enter laundry detergent water, this method can be used to protect a certain area.
3. Flooding
This means drowning ant nests by watering, which is more suitable for ants that nest in flower pots.
4. Chemical Control
Dust: Inhalable dusts such as silicic acid (silicon dioxide) powder are commonly used to kill ants by causing dehydration in their bodies.
5. Silicic Acid Powder and Pyrethrin Powder Mixture
This method is an improvement on the previous one and can shorten the killing time, but you should avoid inhaling the dust yourself or letting the dust get into the room.
Spraying chemical agents around nest entrances and along ant trails can directly kill ants on contact, but this method easily causes environmental pollution and resistance. The following agents are commonly used:
Spray with a 500-1000x dilution of 90% or higher trichlorfon stock solution;
Spray with a 1000-1500x dilution or a 2000-3000x dilution of 50% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate or 80% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate;
Spray with a 0.1% pyrethrin kerosene solvent, etc.
These methods have relatively good results and act quickly, but they are not thorough and do not easily eradicate the problem completely, and they easily cause environmental pollution and resistance.
