What crops are better to grow in Hainan?

Hainan can grow many things. Such as: rubber, bananas, papayas, green oranges, watermelons, lychees, longans, cucumbers, long beans, loofah, winter melon, bitter melon, sponge gourd, bottle gourd, lettuce, cilantro, hot peppers, snow peas, green beans, winged beans, pumpkins, chives, eggplant, celery, etc.

Hainan is located on the northern edge of the tropics and has a tropical monsoon climate. It has long been known as a “natural greenhouse,” with a long summer and no winter. The average annual temperature is 22~27°C, the accumulated temperature of 10°C or above is 8200°C, and the temperature in the coldest month, January, still reaches 17~24°C. Annual sunshine is 1750~2650 hours, with a sunshine percentage of 50%~60%. Light and temperature are abundant, and the photosynthetic potential is high. Spring arrives early on Hainan Island, temperatures rise quickly, the diurnal temperature difference is large, there is no frost all year round, and winters are warm. Rice can be harvested three times a year, and vegetables grow in all four seasons, making it an ideal base for southern multiplication breeding in China.

Hainan Province has abundant rainfall, with annual precipitation between 1000 mm and 2600 mm. The average annual precipitation is 1639 mm, with distinct rainy and dry seasons. From May to October each year is the rainy season, with total precipitation reaching about 1500 mm, accounting for 70~90% of the annual total. The main sources of rain are frontal rain, thermal thunderstorms and typhoon rain. From November each year to April of the following year is the dry season, accounting for only 10~30% of annual precipitation. Drought often occurs during the dry season.

The province's year-round vegetable base area is 15.47 wan mu, with an actual planted area of 11.79 wan mu, a planting rate of 76.22%; the greenhouse construction area is 2.32 wan mu, the greenhouse planting area is 1.30 wan mu, and the greenhouse utilization rate is 55.89%. The area of traditional scattered year-round vegetable planting is about 12.51 wan mu.
