What is Guizhou suitable for planting?
1. Walnut tree: The walnut tree, also known as the Persian walnut tree, belongs to the Juglandaceae family. Its varieties are divided into wild mountain walnut and artificially grafted improved varieties of walnut. It originated in Central Asia, and is planted throughout China. Generally, artificially improved varieties are chosen for planting, because the improved varieties have higher yields and thinner shells than wild varieties, commonly known as paper-shell walnut. Wild ones have the characteristics of thick shells, large size, and high oil content, and taste relatively fragrant, commonly known as iron walnut. The walnut tree can serve as a shelterbelt for road greening; because its wood is tough and elastic, it is also a superior material used in industry; walnut shells can be processed into works of art. Walnuts, together with almonds, cashews, and hazelnuts, are collectively known in the international market as the “four great nuts”. The walnut tree adapts to an ecological environment with deep, loose, fertile, and moist soil and a warm and cool climate.
2. Chinese bayberry tree: Chinese bayberry is a famous fruit in the Jiangnan region of China; its bark is rich in tannins and can be used as a reddish-brown dye and as an astringent in medicine. Chinese bayberry prefers humidity and tolerates shade, has a large canopy, and a wide root distribution. A Chinese bayberry orchard is required to be built on mountain land or hills at an altitude below 800 m, with a slope of less than 45 degrees, a thick humus layer, and acidic yellow soil or red-yellow soil with a pH value of 4.5-5.5, facing shade with ventilation, convenient for intensive management, with convenient transportation, and with weak sunlight and deep soil. The climatic conditions are a subtropical humid monsoon climate. Under microclimatic conditions with relatively large solar radiation, sufficient heat, relatively high accumulated temperature in winter and spring, and moderately slightly low rainfall distribution in summer and autumn, high quality and high yield are more pronounced.
3. Loquat: Produced in Gansu, Shaanxi, Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, and Taiwan, China. It is widely cultivated in various places, and there are wild ones in Sichuan and Hubei. It is also cultivated in Japan, India, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, and Indonesia. China is a major loquat-producing country. Through long-term cultivation and breeding of loquat, numerous varieties have been formed, and there are now more than 300 loquat varieties.
