The Correct Method and Step-by-Step Guide to Fermenting Cow Manure
Add an appropriate amount of fermentation agent to the cow manure, then build a pile, and control the moisture content of the cow manure at 60%-65%; after the cow manure has been piled for 48 hours, when the temperature reaches above 65°C, turn the pile once at this high temperature. Generally, during the fermentation process, high temperatures above 65°C will occur about 2 times; at this point, turning the pile 2 times will complete the fermentation. Under normal conditions, fermentation can be completed within 1 week.
1. Preparing Materials and Adding Bacteria
Prepare the manure to be fermented, preferably fresh cow manure. For example, for about 1 tonne of fresh cow manure, add 0.25 kg of Sukohan cow manure fermentation agent. First mix the cow manure fermentation agent with rice bran at a ratio of 1:5-10 and set aside.
2. Building the Cow Manure Pile
Sprinkle the bacteria while building the pile with the prepared cow manure. The pile height and volume should not be too low or too small. The pile height should be 1.5-2 m, the width 2 m, and the length is unlimited.
3. Adjusting Moisture
The moisture content for fermenting cow manure should be controlled at 40-65%. Judging moisture: tightly squeeze a handful of cow manure; it is suitable if water marks appear between the fingers but no water drips, and it falls apart upon hitting the ground. Less water means slower fermentation; too much water means poor aeration and will also cause “spoilage bacteria” to work and produce a foul odor. Therefore, the moisture content must be well controlled.
4. Starting Temperature
The starting temperature should preferably be above 15°C, and the fermentation temperature should preferably be controlled below 70-75°C.
5. Mixing Evenly and Aerating
Jinbaobei cow manure fermentation agent requires oxygen-consuming fermentation. Therefore, during operation, oxygen supply measures should be increased, and it is best to mix evenly, turn frequently, and aerate. Otherwise, it will lead to anaerobic fermentation and produce a foul odor, affecting the fertilizer effect.
6. Completion of Fermentation
Generally, after the cow manure has been piled for 48 hours, the temperature rises to 50-60°C, and by the third day it can reach above 65°C. At this high temperature, turn the pile once. Generally, during the fermentation process, high temperatures above 65°C will occur twice; turning the pile twice will complete the fermentation. Normally, fermentation can be completed within one week. When the material turns dark brown and the temperature begins to drop to normal temperature, it indicates that fermentation is complete.
