When Does Lavender Bloom? A Detailed Guide to Its Flowering Period
Lavender blooms once each in June and September every year. When the autumn climate conditions are favorable, a third flush of flowers will also bloom in mid-October. At present, along the Mediterranean coast, in Europe, the archipelagos of Oceania, Xinjiang, China, Tennessee, Hokkaido and other places, there are large plantings.
For lavender grown in pots at home, pay attention to the following:
1. Place it in a suitable position
The spot where lavender is grown must have as much light as possible; the more sunlight, the better it grows. There must be at least 6 to 8 hours or more of direct light each day, which helps the branches and leaves grow strong. Try to place it in a wind-protected spot to prevent the flowers from dropping. Growing lavender in a pot on a balcony is a good choice.
2. Choose suitable soil
The first thing in growing lavender is to give it suitable soil. Be sure not to choose slightly acidic soil; instead, it needs slightly alkaline sandy soil, with a soil pH of around 7.5, ensuring good drainage. A suitable amount of decomposed organic fertilizer can be added at the bottom of the pot.
3. Water regularly
Be sure to water lavender regularly, and each time wait until the soil is completely dry before watering. Do not let the soil stay wet for a long time, and even more so do not let water accumulate, otherwise the roots will easily rot. In the first two or three weeks after planting, the soil can be kept appropriately moist.
4. Apply an appropriate amount of fertilizer
Lavender does not need much fertilizer, so there is no need to think about how to mix various fertilizers. Too much fertilizer will instead make lavender's fragrance weaker. Lavender can be given a base fertilizer at the seedling stage, and a small amount of fertilizer can be applied frequently before flowering. After flowering, there is no need to fertilize, because lavender's own fragrance can repel insects, so there is no need to worry that lavender will get insect pests. However, attention must be paid to the problem of root rot, which can be handled by using carbendazim.
Lavender's flower language is waiting for love, and it also means a firm promise, so it is very suitable to give to someone you like. You can buy it yourself at a flower shop, or grow a pot yourself to give to the person you admire.
