When Does Foxtail Millet Mature? Introduction to Maturity Time and Harvest Period
In southern regions, foxtail millet matures in early September, while in northern regions, such as the yellow foxtail millet of Shanxi, it matures in early October each year. So the maturity time of foxtail millet differs depending on the region and sowing time.
The cultivation techniques for foxtail millet are as follows:
1. Land preparation and fertilization
Through crop rotation, deep plowing of the soil, and improving the soil structure, water retention capacity is enhanced and the plow layer is deepened. This helps the foxtail millet roots to grow downward, making the plants grow robustly and thereby increasing yield. Apply sufficient base fertilizer, generally mainly phosphate fertilizer plus farmyard manure.
2. Seed treatment
Select excellent disease-resistant varieties, carry out seed treatment before sowing, choose sunny days to sun the seeds in time, and dress the seeds with New High Lipid Film (can be mixed with seed coating agents). This can repel underground pests and diseases, isolate viral infections, does not affect the germination and imbibition functions, strengthens respiration intensity, and improves the seed germination rate and seedling emergence rate.
3. Replanting and thinning of seedlings
Generally, when the foxtail millet seedlings have 2-3 leaves, inspect the seedlings and replant gaps; when they have 5-6 leaves, carry out thinning and final singling, and spray New High Lipid Film at the appropriate time. This can effectively prevent aboveground moisture from evaporating and seedling moisture from transpiring, isolate pests and diseases, and enable the seedlings to grow healthily.
4. Field management
This includes pressing seedlings to promote vigorous growth, intertillage and weeding, timely watering, reasonable topdressing, and timely spraying of Flower Promoter No. 3 to promote flower bud differentiation and improve the quality of pollen fertilization; spraying Spike Strengthener before flowering can strengthen the physiological functions of foxtail millet, improve fertilization and grain-filling quality, increase the thousand-grain weight, increase the fruit-setting rate, make the grains plump, and thereby increase yield.
5. Pest and disease control
During the growth stage, foxtail millet is prone to pests and diseases such as smut and red spiders. According to plant protection requirements, targeted pesticides should be sprayed in time for eradication and control. Spraying New High Lipid Film at 800 times dilution can greatly improve the utilization rate of the effective ingredients of pesticides.
Foxtail millet is rich in vitamins, iron, protein, and more, and has a certain effect on reducing wrinkles and age spots, so you can eat more foxtail millet in daily life.
