How to plant roses? A detailed explanation of the planting method
Choose a site suitable for rose growth to establish the garden. Before planting, disinfect the soil, mainly by steam sterilization, apply 20 cm thick farmyard manure, and plow. Fertilization can be done in 2 applications, respectively in late autumn and after flowering, combined with deep plowing, then fill the soil, firm it, and water. Pruning is mainly thinning, with heading back as a supplement. For roses with weak growth, heavy pruning can be done to promote new branches.
1. Garden establishment and planting
Choose a site suitable for rose growth to establish the garden. Whether in mountainous areas or plains, never plant on heavy, waterlogged land. Before planting, disinfect the soil, mainly by steam sterilization, and deep plow multiple times to avoid phytotoxicity affecting the development of the plant root system. Then apply 20 cm thick farmyard manure and plow. The planting row spacing is 2-2.5 m, and the plant spacing is 1-1.5 m. On plains, the plant and row spacing can be appropriately increased.
2. Watering and fertilizing
Fertilization can be done in 2 applications: one in late autumn, combined with deep plowing, applying 3000-3300 kg of farmyard manure per mu; the other after flowering, combined with loosening the soil, applying 5-25 kg of diammonium phosphate or other compound fertilizer per mu. Follow the principle of watering when dry and stopping when wet, keeping the soil slightly moist.
3. Timely pruning
Pruning should be carried out according to plant age, growth condition, fertilizer and water, and management conditions, adopting the principle of mainly thinning with heading back as a supplement, so that the plant is old but the branches are not, the branches are numerous but not dense, and ventilation and light transmission are achieved. Old branches over 5 years old should be removed in time to support the growth of new branches. For roses whose growth is weak and have basically lost the ability to bloom, heavy pruning can be done to promote new branches.
