What Is the Difference Between Pineapple and Feilong? One Article Explains It All
The Difference Between Pineapple and Feilong
Appearance
First, let's talk about the difference in appearance. The leaves of the pineapple have serrated edges, and touching them gives you the feeling of getting your hand cut. The leaves of the feilong, on the other hand, are relatively smooth.
Color
In terms of color, the skin of the pineapple is rather yellow, while the skin color of the feilong is on the greenish side.
Flesh
After peeling, a pineapple has inner spines that need to be removed, whereas a feilong has no inner spines after peeling.
Taste
The difference in taste between the two is even greater. The flesh of the pineapple is relatively firm and the flavor is relatively strong, and eating too much leaves a tingling sensation on the tongue; the flesh of the feilong, on the other hand, is relatively soft, with relatively more juice, and eating too much leaves no strange sensation on the tongue.
The pineapple originated in Brazil and was introduced to China in the early 16th century. It got its name because "its peel resembles that of the jackfruit and it is yellow in color."
After it spread to Taiwan, China, the people of Taiwan, China gave it an even more beautiful name: feilong. In Minnan dialect, the pronunciation of feilong closely resembles "wanglai" (prosperity comes), so it is also called wangli.
In other words, feilong and pineapple are simply different names that evolved after the same fruit was introduced to different regions.
Similar cases are not uncommon in the fruit world, such as cherries and Chinese cherries, kiwifruit and Chinese gooseberry, potatoes and Irish potatoes, tomatoes and fanqie, raspberries and fupenzi, liuding and oranges, passion fruit and xifanlian, guava and fanshiliu……
Pineapple and feilong. "Oranges grown south of the Huai River are oranges; grown north of the Huai River they become trifoliate oranges." Pineapple and feilong are nothing more than different names.
