What to Do When Money Tree Leaves Turn Yellow? Causes and Solutions
If yellowing of the money tree leaves is caused by improper watering, adjust the moisture accordingly; if it is caused by unscientific fertilization, improve it by watering more or changing the soil; if it is caused by pests and diseases, remove the leaves and spray with the corresponding agents.
1. Unreasonable watering
The money tree does not have a high demand for water. Not watering it for 1 week will not cause the leaves to turn yellow or wither, but the leaves should be sprayed with water frequently, and dirt on the leaf surface should be cleaned up in time. In a humid environment with poor ventilation, the amount of watering should be reduced appropriately. Watering should soak through, and it should not be done so that the soil is sometimes dry and sometimes wet, as this will also cause dead leaves to form. If too much water is given, the potting soil stays too wet for a long time, causing a lack of oxygen in the potting soil, which makes the root system rot and causes the leaves to turn yellow and fall off. If the money tree shows this kind of leaf drop, watering should be controlled immediately, fertilization should be suspended, and the soil should be loosened frequently so that the soil is well aerated. If the money tree becomes dry and dehydrated, it will likewise cause the leaf color to be dull and lusterless and the leaves to wilt and turn yellow. First the lower old leaves turn yellow and fall off. At this point, water a small amount first and spray water, so that the money tree gradually recovers, and then return to normal watering.
2. Unreasonable fertilization
If the money tree is deprived of fertilizer for a long time, and the potting soil lacks nitrogen and other nutrient elements, the branches and leaves become weak and thin, and the leaves are thin and yellow. In this case, the money tree can be directly repotted, replaced with new loose and fertile nutrient soil, and gradually given more dilute decomposed liquid fertilizer or compound flower fertilizer. If the money tree is over-fertilized, the new leaves will be thick and fleshy and mostly uneven, while the old leaves will dry at the tips, turn yellow, and fall off. At this point, fertilization should be stopped immediately, the roots should be washed, the amount of watering should be increased so that the fertilizer flows out from the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot, or the potting soil should be replaced with new soil.
3. Unreasonable light
The money tree likes cool and moist conditions. If it is placed in a high-temperature location and exposed to direct strong light, it is very easy to cause the edges of new leaves to scorch, or the leaves to turn yellow and fall off. At this point, it should be moved in time to a cool place with good ventilation. But if the money tree is shaded too much, and is kept in a shaded place or a place with insufficient light for a long time, it will also cause the branches and leaves to turn yellow.
