How to Plant Clivia Seeds: A Detailed Guide to Sowing Methods
Choose healthy, plump seeds, soak them in warm water at 40°C to gradually soften and swell the seed coat and endosperm, and after 24 to 36 hours, remove the seeds and let them dry for a while before sowing; place the seeds in a growing medium containing fine sand and sawdust for germination treatment. After about 40 days, when the seed sprouts and roots have grown to 2 cm, plant them in a flower pot for care.
1. Choosing Seeds
Select healthy, plump seeds. Some seeds, although already mature, have no obvious micropyle, poor pollination compatibility, or come from self-pollination; after sowing, such seeds are not easy to sprout, or the seedlings grow weakly.
2. Soaking Seeds in Warm Water
The seed coat of Clivia seeds is extremely tough, and the seed coat is hard and smooth, so it does not easily let water in, but its hilum absorbs water very quickly. Therefore, before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water at 40°C to gradually soften and swell the seed coat and endosperm. After about 24 to 36 hours, remove the seeds and let them dry slightly.
3. Sowing Method
Prepare a container, add a fine sand medium to the container, spread a layer of sawdust on top of the fine sand, lay the seeds flat on top, then cover with another layer of sawdust. Keep the room temperature at 20 to 25°C, and they will sprout in about 40 days. Wait until the seeds sprout and the roots grow to 2 cm, then they can be transplanted into a prepared flower pot for care.
