Another option is to place granular or powdered calcium peroxide together with the bananas in a container; this method can keep bananas for over a month.

Some banana varieties currently popular on the market:

1. Xianren banana

Xianren banana belongs to the tall-stemmed Cavendish banana type. It was selected and bred from a mutation of the Beijiao banana in Taiwan, China, and its overall characteristics are very similar to Beijiao. It is the main cultivar in Taiwan, China. Its fruit is tolerant of transport and is suitable for planting on relatively lean and barren mountainous land.

2. Gaojiao Dundilei

Gaojiao Dundilei belongs to the tall-stemmed Cavendish banana type and is one of the fine varieties of Gaozhou City, Guangdong Province. Its fruit is large and its yield is high; under ordinary cultivation conditions, the yield per plant reaches 25-30 kg, and high-yielding plants can reach 70 kg.

3. Hekou Gaoba banana

Hekou Gaoba banana belongs to the tall-stemmed Cavendish banana type and is the main cultivar of Hekou County, Yunnan. Its fruit quality is good; under ordinary cultivation conditions, the yield per plant is 20-40 kg, and individual high-yielding plants reach 50 kg. This variety has high yield and good quality and is very suitable for planting in areas with high temperature, high humidity, and ample fertilizer and water.

4. Tianbao banana

Tianbao banana originated in the Tianbao area of Fujian Province and is now one of the main cultivars in the Minnan region of Fujian. Its yield per plant is generally 15-27 kg; it has good wind resistance but a relatively long growth period.

5. Guangdong Banana No. 1

Guangdong Banana No. 1 was bred through bud mutation selection from the Gaozhou dwarf banana. It has relatively strong resistance to wind, cold, and leaf spot disease, and medium storability. This variety is high-yielding, stable-yielding, and strongly stress-resistant, and it recovers growth quickly after cold damage. It is a new variety very suitable for cultivation in South China, especially in coastal areas with frequent typhoons.

Bananas generally do not keep for long, so do not buy too many at a time. If you buy a large quantity, it is best to choose less ripe bananas, so they can be stored at home for a longer time.
