A Detailed Guide to Angelica sinensis Planting Methods and Key Techniques
Planting environment: It is suitable for planting at an altitude of about 2500 m; it prefers a dark and damp environment, ideally on a shady hillside with no sunlight. Sowing: Harvest the fruit around the Start of Summer, air-dry it naturally to use as seed, and plant in late May to early June of the following year. Transplanting: After about 3 and a half months, dig up the seedlings and store them; after half a month, transplant them to a site at an altitude of 2500 m.
How to Plant Angelica sinensis
1. Soil
Angelica sinensis is suitable for planting at an altitude of about 2500 m and prefers a dark and damp environment. It is best planted on a shady hillside with no sunlight, in a place with soft, level soil.
2. Sowing
Around the Start of Summer, harvest the mature fruit of Angelica sinensis, air-dry it naturally in a cool, dry place to use as seed, and plant it in late May to early June of the following year for the best results.
Scatter the seeds evenly over the soil surface, then cover them with a layer of soil about five millimeters thick. After germination, if weeds grow around them, remove them promptly, preferably by pulling them out by hand. When pulling them out, be careful not to damage the new sprouts; if the new sprouts come up too densely, promptly remove the excess sprouts.
3. Transplanting
Counting from the day the seeds are sown in the ground, after about 110 days the Angelica sinensis seedlings need to be dug out of the ground. Dig gently so as not to damage their roots. About 90 seedlings can be tied into a bundle and taken back for storage. It is best to store the seedlings in a cool, dry place for about half a month.
After about half a month, transplant the Angelica sinensis seedlings to a site at an altitude of about 2500 m for planting, and the soil surface should be level. During planting, manage the spacing well; it should not be too dense. The planting depth should not exceed 5 cm. When weeding during the growing period, prevent damage to the roots. The use of herbicides or pesticides is prohibited. During this period, pay attention to soil drought and waterlogging, as well as watering and drainage. Apply fertilizer in appropriate amounts.
In early June, remove the relatively weak, unhealthy, and overly dense small seedlings. Prevent them from affecting the normal growth of the other seedlings. Angelica sinensis is suitable for harvesting in mid-to-late October.
