What are the key points to note when growing strawberries? Explained in one article
When growing strawberries, attention should be paid to variety selection, choosing suitable containers, planting methods, fertilizer and water management, as well as plant management and harvesting. Strawberry growing runs in a cycle of about three years, and it takes patient cultivation and care to achieve the greatest economic benefit.
Key points to note when growing strawberries
1. Variety selection
All strawberry varieties are suitable for pot cultivation, but it is best to choose Fengxiang and Xintun No. 1, which have large fruit and strong growth vigor.
2. Containers
Flower pots can be used. Use clay pots 20-33 cm * 20-33 cm, and before planting the flower pot should be placed in water to soak.
3. Potting soil: It is best to use humus soil from the surface layer of broadleaf forests. You can also use 1 part each of garden soil, decomposed manure, and river sand evenly mixed, then add 2-3% superphosphate and mix it in.
4. Planting method
You can plant 1-3 strawberry plants in one flower pot, or you can choose varieties with different ripening periods and plant them together so they can pollinate each other and extend the ornamental and edible period.
5. Fertilizer and water management
For potted strawberries, apply fertilizer once every 7-10 days. It is best to use a mixed liquid made from 10-30% cake fertilizer, fish scraps, or poultry innards fully fermented and decomposed in water, applied once about every 10 days. Apply little but often, and combine it with watering.
6. Plant management
The young tender runners that emerge should be removed promptly. If the purpose is ornamental and you do not want it to bear fruit, you can leave the runners so they grow clusters of leaves that hang down naturally, then hang it up and train it into a strawberry bonsai like a spider plant.
