How to store cilantro so it keeps for a long time and stays fresh
Cut off the roots of the cilantro you bought, keep the leaves dry, then place the stems in a jar filled with clean water. Then slip a clean plastic bag over the jar, wrapping the cilantro and the mouth of the jar completely, and secure the jar opening with a rubber band. Finally, just put the prepared jar and cilantro in the refrigerator. Generally, this method can keep cilantro for about two weeks.
In addition, there are the following ways to store cilantro:
1. Storing fresh cilantro in the freezer
(1) Wash the cilantro clean and let it dry (make sure the cilantro is completely dry), then put the whole cilantro (it can be trimmed before putting it in) into the freezer.
(2) Spread the cilantro on a baking sheet. Spread the cilantro leaves in a single layer on the baking sheet, making sure the leaves do not overlap or touch each other. After freezing for 30 minutes, put the frozen cilantro into a plastic freezer bag. This storage method can keep cilantro for several months. When you need to use it, take the cilantro out of the freezer and let it thaw at room temperature.
2. Storing in an ice cube tray
(1) Rinse the fresh cilantro with clean water and drain off the excess water (keep the cilantro dry). Then cut it into small pieces, put them in a prepared ice cube tray, and pour in cold water so that the cilantro is completely covered by the water.
(2) Put the cilantro and water into the freezer and freeze into ice, which takes about several hours. Storing cilantro in an ice cube tray can keep it for about several months, and usually it can be kept one month longer than cilantro not frozen in water. When you need to use it, take the ice cubes out of the freezer and thaw them. Let the leaves dry or pat them dry with paper. You can also put the ice cubes with cilantro directly into soup or sauce.
3. Air-drying for storage
(1) Bundle a few stalks of cilantro into a bunch and secure it with string in a suitable place.
(2) Hang the cilantro up and place it in a warm and ventilated place to air-dry. During the air-drying process, avoid direct sunlight.
(3) After air-drying, store the cilantro in a cool, dry place. Air-dried cilantro can be kept for at least half a year.
Cilantro has a very short storage time under natural conditions. If the temperature is too high, the leaves tend to turn yellow and wilt, so do not buy too much each time, and eat it as soon as possible after buying it.
