A Complete Guide to the Key Techniques for Growing Celery in Greenhouses
Land preparation and fertilization: choose level land and carry out tilling, fertilization and weeding. Sowing: soak and sprout the seeds 7-8 days before sowing; sow once the seeds have sprouted, mostly using the wet sowing method. Management: water moderately, keep the field moist, and control pests and diseases promptly.
Celery Growing Techniques in Greenhouses
1. Land preparation and fertilization
The land chosen must be level and fine-textured, and before planting the land must be tilled, fertilized and weeded. Because the temperature inside a greenhouse differs somewhat from that outside, fertilizer must be applied in the right amount to avoid soil degradation from over-fertilization. Increase phosphorus and potassium fertilizer appropriately and reduce the use of nitrogen fertilizer.
2. Building the greenhouse
In general, choose a greenhouse with a span of 8-12 m and a length of 60-120 m, with earth walls on three sides and three rows of upright posts, and it is best to use bamboo or steel frames on the posts. Cover the greenhouse surface with drip-free film to raise the temperature inside the greenhouse.
3. Sowing
Soak and sprout the seeds 7-8 days before sowing. First soak them in cool water at 12-14°C for 12-24 hours, rinse the seeds clean, leave them in a cool, airy place to dry for a while, and once the seed surface is dry, wrap them in a wet towel and place them in a cool place (15-20°C) in the light to sprout. Sow once the seeds have sprouted, mostly using the wet sowing method, that is, first water the seedbed, and after the water has seeped in, mix the seeds with sand and broadcast them. After sowing, cover with soil thinly and evenly.
4. Management
Water moderately and keep the seedling bed moist. Thin the seedlings once when the seedlings have 2 leaves, and after the seedlings are established, carry out intertillage. When the seedlings have grown to 5-7 leaves and reached a height of 15-18 cm, they can be transplanted. After transplanting, strengthen fertilizer and water management and control pests and diseases promptly to ensure normal growth and development.
