How to fertilize strawberries for good growth? Here's the method
You need to apply pre-flowering fertilizer, post-fruiting fertilizer, flower-bud fertilizer, and foliar topdressing. For pre-flowering fertilizer, apply 10 kg of urea and 25 kg of phosphate fertilizer per mu. For post-fruiting fertilizer, apply 10-15 kg of urea and ammonium sulfate, 15-20 kg of phosphate fertilizer, and 7.5-10 kg of potassium chloride per mu. Flower-bud fertilizer mainly consists of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, supplemented with a small amount of nitrogen fertilizer. Foliar topdressing should be applied according to the growth condition of the strawberries.
1. Pre-flowering fertilizer.
Apply after the strawberries begin to grow in early spring and before flowering (around mid-March) to meet the various nutritional needs for flowering. Apply 10 kg of urea and 25 kg of phosphate fertilizer per mu, then cultivate and irrigate after fertilizing.
2. Post-fruiting fertilizer.
After the strawberries have fruited heavily, the plants become deficient in nutrients. In order to restore plant growth as quickly as possible, form more new leaves and new roots, and create conditions for flower bud differentiation in autumn, this topdressing should appropriately increase potassium fertilizer. Apply 10-15 kg of urea and ammonium sulfate, 15-20 kg of phosphate fertilizer, and 7.5-10 kg of potassium chloride per mu.
3. Flower-bud fertilizer.
Apply before flower bud differentiation of the strawberries, which ensures the normal growth of the strawberry plants and flower bud differentiation. Mainly apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, supplemented with a small amount of nitrogen fertilizer.
4. Foliar topdressing (i.e., leaf surface spraying).
According to the growth condition of the strawberries, fertilizers such as urea, monopotassium phosphate, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, borax, and magnesium sulfate can be selected. Carry out leaf surface spraying of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and some trace elements from the bud emergence stage to the end of flowering of the strawberries, generally 2-3 times; the spraying time should preferably be chosen on cloudy days or in the evening of sunny days.
